Inside Fiber Optic Cable length from fiber jack to AT&T modem limitations?

I scheduled an installer to come out and hook up new AT&T fiber optic 1G internet.  I do not have a previous fiber install, so he would have had to lay the outside wire on the grass, and have someone bury it later.  that part was ok.

Inside the house, however, he told me the modem can only be connected to the wall with a 12 foot long fiber cable limiting where I locate the modem.  this does not sound right to me... I should be able to connect that with a 500 foot cable if I wanted to, right?  we were having some communication issues talking to each other.  Other forum threads showed 25meter cables from fibertronics and Amazon, singlemode simplex 9/125 SC/APC to SC/APC.

I didn't get the modem model number, he said it had built in wifi so I wouldn't need my old router anymore.

update and resolution to my original post. I do not have an ONT, I got the new BGW320 gateway, which has the fiber modem and WiFi router combined into one device.
I have a single fiber optic cable from the fiber jack on the wall to the BGW320.
originally, the tech said I can only use a 12 foot cable from the fiber jack on the wall to the BGW320. This was incorrect. I decided to buy fiber cable in the picture from Amazon, for about $15, and test it. Actually showed better results when using the speed test feature with the cable purchased from Amazon. I used this for 1Gbps connection. Works perfectly.
Next I’m going to route this longer cable into my attic and drop in a different location using this longer cable... obviously taking care not to over bend or pull the fiber and damage it.

Ok, so what are those various length options?  He said 12 foot was the only option.  I’m thinking he only had 12 foot cables on his truck so that was it

That would be correct...

If wanting a different type of install, more past standard...

Have the tech mount the ONT on the wall, normally a 010 for GPON or 020 for XPON, depends on the fiber splitter your connected to at the PFP.

From the ONT would use an ethernet cable of various lengths to contact to the gateway... expect the 210-700 but could also be the 5268 or 599. Would not expect the 320 as that has the ONT build into the gateway with fiber from the wall jack.

Great post. I am new to AT&T Fiber. Had it installed two weeks ago but the cable from the wall to the BGW-320 gateway (no ONT box required) is too short. I'm looking for a longer cable but everything I see says that AT&T requires a multimode fiber cable.

Is your cable still working fine? If so, do you have a link to where you bought it?

Sorry, I don’t have the link, but all the info you need is in the image I attached. Bought it on Amazon. Can you see the image?

I’m pretty sure it’s single mode for this gateway. Telecom links are typically single mode because that works best over long distances.
