How can a hard wired internet lose internet?

I have uverse/wifi. I recently did a speed test on my "hard wired" internet smart tv and it was 8? I constantly get a pop up that says my LAN wired is "not connected" how can a wired connection lose internet? I sit here and do nothing and it pops up later and says wired now connected? I have never been anle to enjoy directv perks such as playback etc. Because of lack of bandwidth when that is the only device accessing the internet btw I pay for 40mbps I have never gotten anywhere near that the most was 20mbps. Ever since att internet was installed we have had the same loss of internet when the service is hard wired. There seems to be a problem with the internet coming into to my home from the line they tapped into. I had directv previously at that time I had time warner internet/wifi and never had any issues, directv worked great I was able to enjoy all of directv perks. I never had to call time warner or directv about poor service which has not been the case with att internet service since it was installed July 1, 2016. I look forward to my contract with att ends and I can go back a quailty internet service provider.
