Fiber internet across the street

I have a home based business in New Orleans. Fiber is available on the other side my street, but not my side. Who can I talk to about getting this available on my side of the street? My wireless connection to cox internet at my house is way faster than ethernet to my current AT&T DSL.

We understand how important it is to have high speed Internet for your business, winkarch.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that AT&T Internet is a distance-dependent service. If you're too far away from the equipment, certain services will likely not be available. This would explain why your neighbors across the street have Fiber, but your house doesn't. You can get more information from our article that discusses faster speeds and availability.

In the meantime, we recommend that you sign up for a notification if Fiber becomes available in the future. Just visit att.com/NotifyMe. We'll send you a notification via your preferred method as soon as AT&T Fiber becomes available to you.

If you need help with anything else, just reach back out and let us know.

Yeah...the distance thing doesn't make sense...the houses across the street are not further away from the street than my house is, or any house on my side of the street. The engineers just didn't put up the fiber connect boxes on the poles on my side of the street.

Do you live in a house or a Apartment / Condo building and what type of housing is across the street?

Do you have overhead utilities or buried utility services?

All Fiber service areas have to end somewhere. The normal plan is at a cross-street intersection but can be anywhere actually depending on where your nearest Primary Flexibly Point (PFP) is located. There is a distance limit just like your DSL.

Fiber service areas can't just be extended like an extension cord (simple version). Is there any AT&T Fiber service on your side of the street maybe a block either direction from your address?

I live on a street with single/two family houses. There are utility poles along the street (both sides). There are FO boxes on the poles on the other side of the street, but not on mine (according to the installer who hooked up my DSL). Including one directly opposite of my house. My house is right on the street right of way property line (ie no front yard) so the front of my house is about 30' from the pole. If I type in any address across the street Fiber is available to them. Any address on my side and it is not available.

Thanks for the update on your specific location.

Your outside of the Fiber service area since they can't drop an aerial line across your street. The only way for AT&T to offer you service would be to install a new Fiber service area that includes your side of the street.

What specific AT&T DSL product do you currently have? AT&T is working to upgrade as well as expand to new service area. However there is no public schedule to know when or if you will be offered Fiber service.

Your best option is to use Cox if you just need faster speeds now unless you are interested in a Dedicated Business Fiber solution that would be very expensive. Pricing starts at $495 per month.

Yes. I currently have Internet 18. Yes, my wifi from the Cox cable that comes into my house is much faster than the wired ethernet connection to the ATT box in my home office. I don't mind waiting a little bit since I have already paid for the installation but at some point it doesn't make sense to have both. I wanted both to have diversity since when one goes out, I have the other I can rely on.

thanks

If you are dependent on an Internet connection for business.

You need a backup internet connection for business and that even applies to AT&T Residential Fiber.
