Demand and Claim for Damages from AT&T

I received a letter from AT&T for Demand and Claim for Damages stating I cut a cable line while edging my grass.

I've had extremely shoddy work done by the AT&T Bury Cable service.  After moving into our new home 2 years ago the fiber lines laid above ground for months and only after calling numerous times did they finally get buried.  The job they did left lines exposed and buried less than an inch deep in places.  As I was edging my grass a couple of months ago I accidentally cut a cable, but initially refused to pay anything to fix it as it should have been buried to AT&T standard depth and it wasn't my fault.  Later I did pay half the stated $100 charge reluctantly.   After months of the cable laying on top of the ground they came out to bury the cable, tore up my yard with gravel and dirt on top of my grass in multiple locations.   When the AT&T representative came out to attach the new buried line to my house he indicated the bury service didn't connect the cable to the hub across the street so my yard would have to be dug up again and the cable run.  Months went by until the cable was buried again and later attached to my house.  Now, today I got a bill for damages of $381.44 to reimburse AT&T for damage to their property, really???

Hi Dave006

I spoke with the office of the President and they indicated they don't get involved or override other departments regardless of the lack of fairness of charges.  She said it's with Risk Management, she called them and admitted they had to wait a very long time to get in touch with them and suggested I do the same (more to add to the great customer experience!)  I tried calling Risk Management and their recorded message said their mailbox was full....no doubt!!!   More red tape without anyone who actually hears and does something for their customers, unfortunately!!!

AT&T changed the procedure to file a claim not too long ago.  Now you go directly to AT&T at 800-288-2020 and file the claim and they'll take the info and create the claim number before handing it over to Sedgewick.

This hasn't been in place for long enough to know if it makes anything better as far as the process actually working but the cynic in me says probably not.  🙄

I just got one too! Says I owe $1100.  Their contractor kept leaving it on the ground, no burying of cables.  They then said they would leave it right below ground until they would run a line and do conduit.

Had a fence guy come and replace a few boards and the wire got cut accidentally because it was right below the surface
