Damage to pipes and interior of home

On Thursday October 6, 2023 ATT came and dug holes in my yard installing fiber optic cables.  I am not an ATT customer, so I do not have an account or account number.  I had made a complaint with ATT when this happened because of the installation of the cables, pipes were broken and my two bathrooms flooded causing damage.  Since then, my water bill has become increasingly higher. Last month, my bill skyrocketed to $230. This month it has gone up to $300.  McAllen Public Utility has been to my home a couple of times since then inquiring why my water consumption has gone up so much.  I let them know since ATT went and dug the holes and damaged the pipes, my water bill has been going up each month.  They said for you to call them and they can show you what my bills looked like before those pipes were damaged.  I am a school counselor and cannot afford to be paying this much every month.  Please help resolve this issue. The number for McAllen Public Utility is 956-681-1717.

Hi there, npadilla14. Thank you for reporting that your property was damaged during an installation of AT&T Fiber Optics. We understand your utility bill has been raised because of this incident. We can point you in the right direction to get this taken care of.

You will need to submit a property damage claim. Please have the following information available upon request:

Location – The physical address or GPS coordinates for the location where damage occurred.

Photos – Include close-ups and wide views of the area damaged. If possible, include photos of the person, vehicle, or equipment that caused the damage. Photos can be from cameras, cell phones, or other devices.

Once you have the information together, call AT&T at 1-800-288-2020 and let any agent know that you’d like to open a new claim against AT&T. Please inform the person that you speak with that you are NOT a customer of AT&T.

They will ask you a series of questions related to the incident and provide you a submitted claim number once the claim is submitted.

Once assigned to a claims' examiner, they will generally contact you within 3-5 business days to discuss the report and get additional information.

The claims' examiner will:

  • ask you questions about the damage
  • provide you with a location to send your photos
  • request you get an estimate for site repairs
  • come to your property to complete the claims process.

Once the claim is filed, you can track you claim by calling: 855-365-4976

If there is anything else that you need, please reach out to us again. Thank you using the AT&T Forums.

I tried contacting ATT. All I kept getting was transferred "to the right number" over and over again.

Oh right there's always some nonsense protecting the corporation due to damage, since they use contractors to avoid being held accountable for anything.

I followed all of ATT's directions above and was mostly bounced around. I finally got a claim submitted by calling 866-410-7414. All of the other calls were a dead-end. Good luck!
