at&t fiber routing to China Telecom issue

Hi there,

I recently had at&t fiber installed and the routing to China Telecom AS4134 seems to be problematic. It works every day from about 12:00pm to 5:00pm PDT and the rest of the day it doesn't work. I searched this forum and it seems that many people already complained about this issue.

So here is the test result to one IP address (121.4.162.206) within AS45090.

The routing to AS45090 when it works
The routing to AS45090 when it doesn't work

You can see that when it works (~12:00pm to ~5:00pm PDT), the routing is from AT&T(AS7018) to AS4134 - AS4811/4812 - AS45090

But after 5:00pm, the routing entry seems to be damaged. After 12.122.114.5, it no longer goes to 192.205.32.34 which I think is an AT&T border gateway router in LA.

It looks to be an NOC routing issue. Would AT&T customer support guys here open an NOC ticket so the network operations center folks can fix this?

AT&T has identified this as a capacity issue.  Their Peer gets overloaded at times when issues are indicated.  They are allegedly working to increase the capacity.

ok, so you are saying China Telecom is revoking the published routing and they are working on this issue? Is there an estimated timeline this would be fixed?

The thing here is 1. Other ISPs doesn't have the problem, like T-Mobile wireless which uses AS6461 to peer with China Telecom 4134, or Google VPN which uses AS6453 to peer with AS4134 or even Verizon(AS701) is fine with them    and 2. there seems to have a fixed window here in AT&T this works.

I am curious why China Telecom only revokes the routing for AS7018(AT&T) then.

We'll do our best to fix the routing to China Telecom, panyi82.

We're aware that this is a problem for some customers, and we're working on a resolution, as JefferMC mentioned.

We don't have an estimated resolution time at the moment, but we'll do our best to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

If you need help with anything else in the meantime, don't hesitate to reach back out and let us know.
