WHY does my ATT Fiber Modem/Router keep resetting to factory defaults

First I had a BGW210 and it randomly reset itself to factory defaults about 4 times before I was over it. I contacted support and they sent me another BGW210, and guess what? The new one randomly reset itself to factory defaults 3 or so times before I went off on ATT over on Twitter.

ATT sent me another modem/router combo, this time a BGW320-500. It's barely been more than a month and this stupid piece of crap just reset itself to factory defaults. I'm sitting at my computer doing some work and watching twitch... I lose internet for about 10 seconds, think nothing of it. Internet came back, all is well. A few hours later my kid is trying to watch Netflix but the Roku TV says it's not connected. I pull out my phone to check, and sure enough.. my Wifi network is gone and the default ATT wireless network named ATTyiUXYjs is staring me in my face.

I'm so over this crap. I have like 10 static IPs set in my network, along with a dozen and half port forwards. And because NONE of these routers have a backup setting feature, I've had to MANUALLY redo this every time the router just randomly resets to default.

How am I the only person that this keeps happening to? Does some clown in ATT support just keep screwing with me??? 😭😭😭

How long each bgw320 work counting from install time before it starts to keep resetting it self?

It really varies. The only correlation I’ve ever found is that it happens when firmware updates are released.

Hi, Kris,

Thanks for chiming in.  I will note that this issue has happened to me two more times since you joined this conversation.

I have checked though, but my BGW320 still indicates that it is running on 4.23.4 firmware.  Because you indicated that the 4.24 firmware was released about a month ago...do you know where that firmware could be obtained?  I'd be willing to force an update in the hopes that this issue will be resolved.  But whenever I prompt the device to check for an update, it tells me that none is available and so far, it hasn't attempted to update itself.

I’m sorry but I have no clue about the firmware updates. The only thing I know is that there is no way to disable them.

quick update—my wifi became really poor a few days ago. I verified that port forwarding was still working so I knew the router didn’t factory reset. When I finally logged in to the router I found that the wifi settings only had been cleared.

I am now about ready to switch to a new internet provider. This company does not use this brand of equipment.

The updates are rolled in automatically, several hundred thousands RG's at the time, but you can call 800-288-2020 and ask for the new 4.24 firmware to be installed manually while you are on the call. I have also noticed few issues with certain bgw320 builds that have reset issues, however I don't have enough data to form a thesis which bgw320 hardware versions are affected or prone to resets, Keep trying to solve the issue, also if you are gonna call in for firmware update, make sure they check all other settings, if you are using att rg wifi ask for b/g/n/ax mode on 2.4ghz as by default its only set to g/n.

Thanks, Kris.

Wouldn't you know, exactly three days after my post...my bgw320 received the firmware update.  It's now running 4.24.6.

Fingers crossed that the resetting issue doesn't re-occur.
