VERY slow wifi speed & page loads with Fiber 100/BGW210-700 router?

I recently signed up for the Fiber 100 plan. My bandwidth is great and I get about 90Mbps down and up. I have < 10ms pings to major sites on the internet (Google, etc.)

But basic web surfing is AWFUL. For example, a simple Google search will take 6-12 seconds to load the page. Almost any page load is like using dialup. Oddly, Speed Test Solitaire essay writer there's a huge pause where nothing happens, and then suddenly the whole page loads instantly.

If I am on google.com and typing interactively into the search box, I will get near-instant autocomplete results. But when I finally hit enter and do the search, the page load will take 6-12 seconds. I get similar problems on other sites. It's like establishing the initial connection of the HTTP request is the bottleneck. I thought it was maybe DNS, so I switched to 8.8.8.8 but that didn't make a difference.

I suspect the router itself is the problem, because the admin interface is similarly slow when I visit 192.168.1.254. I get the impression that the router hardware is overwhelmed in some way; insufficient memory, unable to handle connections or something like that.

Rebooting the router makes it better for about 6-12 hours, then it slows down again. After a reboot, page loads are not as fast as our previous service (Time Warner cable modem), but it's bearable for a few hours.

I have wired as well as a WiFi clients using the router; it affects both, but WiFi is much, much worse. I am using all the default settings from the initial installation (only thing I changed was the SSID). I just got the system update to 1.8.18 a few days ago (it came installed with 1.7.x), but unfortunately that did not help.

Let's see if we can get your internet speeds back up to par, @SolomonShawn.

Do you have your gateway plugged into a surge protector or an outlet?

Here are some tips to optimize your internet speed.  We recommend that you plug your gateway in to an outlet to get the most power and the best speeds.

Also, we suggest that you use our Smart Home Manager Tool. You can run health diagnostics on your network, as well as speed tests.

Let us know if this helps.

Try disabling all IPV6 on the RG (Residential Gateway). This still seems to be a little buggy when it comes to DNS resolution, which is what I'm suspecting is causing your slow responses.

I bought this at the recommendation of an AT&T chat CSR, who assured me it would work out of the box. Instead, after days and days of trying to get a solution, I had to have a technician come to my house to do it. He basically was on chat with someone remote as well, but had access to a higher level of support than I did. Then I got billed $99 for the visit, and I am keeping an eye on my next bill to make sure the charge gets removed, as the AT&T modem I had (5268ac) had a well-known firmware problem (DMZ throttling) for months. The tech even had the gall to claim that the firmware issue was not a problem with the equipment (hardware), thus the $99 charge. Prepare for long hours spent with customer service to get things sorted out.
The interface is much snappier than the slow 5268 modem that came with my fiber service.

You cannot buy att gateways. If you didn’t get it from att,  you won’t be able to waive the $99 charge.

That DMZ+ issue was two years ago.  It's been at least a year since AT&T fixed it via firmware.

Even if you had a 5268ac with the bad firmware (you don't) the situation you quoted has absolutely nothing to do with the DMZ+ speed issue.  The bad firmware limited speeds to 50Mbps but everything else worked normally. What you quoted quite clearly shows that the person was getting 90Mbps and complaining about a common issue with Apple devices that resulted in very lagging web surfing.  Two totally different things!

@ATTDigitalLifeCS I keep seeing a user pop up around the boards that looks like a bot or fake. The user id is 'bojo2112jon'. I didn't see a way to report these types of things in your FAQ...

Thanks, @mrjlturner1154, much appreciated!  It looks like someone fixed the one here and I just killed one in a different section of the forums.
