Using Orbi wifi mesh CBR40 with satellite with ATT modem/router BGW-320

I recently switched to ATT fiber from Xfinity. I currently use my own modem+router combo (CBR40).  The AT&T Fiber self-install kit came with BGW-320. From my understanding, my orbit is not a router-only device. Can I connect the AT&T fiber modem to use router capabilities inside my orbi? And make orbi act as a router instead of modem+router? Has anyone had this experience connecting these two? Are there any instructions for connecting together so that I can use advanced features in Orbi?

Hi there, @sawrubd! We want to help get your equipment set up properly.

We've got a helpful post in the Forums that discusses how to connect Orbi Wi-Fi to an AT&T Modem. By using this method, you'll be using your third party equipment as an Access Point, your AT&T equipment will still act as your router.

Here's how to set up your Orbi as an Access Point:

  1. Connect Orbi to the AT&T Modem using an ethernet cable (included).
  2. From a browser, go to orbilogin.com and sign in.
  3. Enter the router admin user name and password.
    • The username is admin.
    • The default password is password.
  1. Select ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Router/AP Mode.
  2. From the Router/AP Mode, select AP Mode radio button.
  3. Select the IP address setting. There are two options, the 1st is recommended:
    • Get dynamically from existing router. The other router on the network assigns an IP address to this router while this router is in AP mode. (Recommended)
    • Enable fixed IP settings on this device (not recommended). Use this setting if you want to manually assign a specific IP address to this router while it is in AP mode. Using this option effectively requires advanced network experience.
  1. Select Apply.

Once your Orbi is connected: Turn off Wi-Fi On the AT&T Modem

Disabling the Wi-Fi will prevent Wi-Fi conflicts between the Orbi and AT&T modem.

  1. Sign into your modem (You’ll find the access code on the modem)
  2. Go to Settings, then LAN, and select the Wi-Fi Tab
  3. Select Disable on the Wi-Fi Interface
  4. Scroll down and select Save (you may need to reenter the Access Code)

If you'd rather not use your third party equipment as an Access Point, you can always set up IP Passthrough. Here's how to configure IP Passthrough:

Note: Remember to make a copy of all current IP settings before proceeding.

Run your Web browser application, such as Firefox and Chrome, from the computer connected to the Arris BGW210-700 and BGW320.

  • Enter http://192.168.1.254 in the Location text box.

  • Click the IP Passthrough tab and configure your settings.

Let us know how this works for you, or if you have any questions.
