Slow Wifi over Fiber

Just upgraded from DSL to 100Mbps Fiber.  The ATT speed test show I'm getting roughly 120Mbps down.  Which sounds about right because I'm getting close to that when testing through an Ethernet port directly.  Wifi is very different.  I'm getting on average anywhere from 35 to 45Mbps Download and about the exact same on Upload (40Mbps).  And sometimes 10-20% even more on Upload.  This doesn't seem normal to me.  So I'm pretty sure there is something up with the Wifi router.  I even detached every other device so when testing I only had one device using the service.  I've tried Iphones, Android, tablets, and two laptops with the same results.  I really with ATT would let us use our own routers, but I don't believe that is possible.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It honestly depends on your devices and the wifi limitations on it.

For example, my older macbook would only do 300mbps up/down on wifi, as opposed to hardwired it gets the full 940/940...this doesn't imply I have a problem with my wifi, it's just the limitation on my devices wifi protocols of when the device came out (was the best of it's time)

Here’s where I’m confused. No matter what device I use (Cell phone, computer, ipad, etc) I get around 35mbs Down and 35-45mbs Up. That just doesn’t seem right to me. I was consistently getting 12mbs Down and around .5mbs Up with my DSL. This seems symmetrically correct for what I was supposed to get (12mbs plan). Now I have the 100M plan. I believe an iPhone6 should be getting much better than that. I’ve also got a newer Android that sees that exact same speed.

The really frustrating part is that it will take a year to get it fixed. My DSL had problems and it took, no lie, over a year to get it fixed. We had to go through the standard reset this, check this, are you a mile away from the router, etc..etc..etc. Very frustrating. I wish I could try my own router but from what I understand this is not possible.

I’ll keep digging and regrettably try customer service soon to start that daunting process.

Thanks,
