Slow connection using Google, Facebook, and certain sites after recent upgrade

Hello, I'm brand new UVerse GigaPower user.

The transition to this new service hasn't gone as smoothly as I hoped but I want to try to figure out this most annoying issue for now.

First of all, I'm using all of the default settings on the device provided by AT&T. The Motorola NVG589. On speedtest I'm getting the advertised speeds of 300/300 with a 15ms ping.

So the problem is, when I do a google search from chrome, it hangs there until it eventually times out and then I have to reload the page, after which the search results appear. Another example is in Gmail, sometimes the inital page is very slow to load, but it hangs forever when trying to open individual emails. Again, multiple page refreshes seem to fix this.

Again, everything is default. I'm tempted to try to disable WIFI on the NVG589 and use my own router but hoping I can resolve it without going through that.

Thanks!

PS. I'd like to add that youtube(google) is also unusable.

Thanks for the reply. My modem already has IPv6 disabled.

This setting IPv6 has been disabled and the service is as flaky as ever.Screenshot from 2016-08-03 06_05_05.png

I just discovered that emails being sent to me from persons in western Europe who use a dot gmx extension are not arriving in my outlook inbox or spam box. I have been using outlook10 on my desktop for years with no issues until now. When Bellsouth - AT&T got out of the email ISP business and turned it over to yahoo, I set up my yahoo account to forward all my email to my desktop bellsouth outlook account and it's been working fine for years up until I guess a few months ago. Yesterday I telephoned a friend because we've had no contact for a several months and he told me that that he's beeen sending emails weekly (but they never got to me and he got no undeliverable bounce back) .......so it appears something has happened at yahoo that's preventing those gmx emails to be forwarded autmatically anymore. I'm able to log into my yahoo email account and I do see those gmx emails have arrived and I can manually forward them to my bellsouth address but the automatic forward is not working for if with the gmail extesion. This is weird.....anyone have an idea why it is that happening and why only gmail? Also I had a new (upgraded) router installed by AT&T a few months ago, thay is thonly I change I have done for years......but I don't see how that new router would prevent automaic forwarding of gmail.

@garyhomestead   Actually when Yahoo redesigned email again last October, they pretty much stopped forwarding anything at that time.   Had mine being forwarded to gmail. Smiley Frustrated

I have been experiencing this freezing as well.  Started a week ago.  It has happened 7 times tonight alone from 7:20 - 8:39.  Have had several AT&T techs out this week and they've replaced my modem, DVR, fiber terminal, had me powner off my alarm system because they thought there might be some interference on the lines and they even swapped out some parts in the main box down the street.  Still have the freezing screen.  All I have to do is switch the station and then switch back but this sure is ridiculous!  So, I've just disabled the IPv6 based on reading the tips on this forum and will see if this helps.  I'm beyond frustrated with this service.  If just disabling the IPv6 resolves the problems, then all AT&T techs should be alerted to this.  Amazing that all I have to do is google TV freezing on AT&T uverse and I am directed to this forum with the "fix" I hope!! Crossing my fingers!!

Why is it that I can't play or I seem to have a hard time playing HD content on YouTube? Granted my connection speed is inconsistent ranging from 300-900Mbps using speedtest but that should still be fast enough to play YouTube HD content right? I live in the Sacramento area and was with CCI with their 100Mbps plan and I thought I would get faster speed with AT&T gigabit speed, now I can't even watch YouTube's HD content. Also, in YouTube website, it says that AT&T Uverse is not even HD Verified (unlike CCI and Comcast). Even with fiber, I can't get YouTube HD content without the thing buffering every 5 seconds.

I've already disabled IPv6 and used Google's public DNS and that didn't help. Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

I followed this advice and my modem appears to have finally stopped disconnecting and reconnecting every couple of minutes. Thanks!
