Security options in SmartHome Manager

I do not see an option in my SmartHome Manager app for security options. It tells me I am "Online", but I am expecting to see that I am "Online & Secure". It appears that I have the latest version of the app, so I am puzzled. Insight appreciated.

Try the Smart Home Manager web site:

https://myhomenetwork.att.com/

Once I was logged in, there was a tile for "AT&T Internet security" with an Activate button.  Not sure what it would look like if it were active, because I have no intention of pushing that button.

Also, from inside your home network, you should be able to go to http://192.168.1.254/ and click on Firewall > Security Options (or click the below link)

http://192.168.1.254/cgi-bin/securityoptions.ha

It should show the Security software active, with a button to disable it if you desire.

JefferMC, thank you so much. There is no tile for AT&T Internet Security in the Smart Home Manager site, and I did check the settings, and although the firewall is active, there is security setting option in firewall. Thanks for your response!

Let's get you secured, @traceysforum!

Just as our ACE @JefferMC mentioned, you should see a security options when selecting the firewall tab after logging into your gateway.

If you do not see what they are mentioning, please let us know so we can try something else!

Thank you for that, @traceysforum!

Can you please send us screenshot of how your app looks? Block out any person information that may be present.

Also, when in the Smart Home Manager app, select settings, then app preferences. You should see the option to toggle AT&T Internet Security ON or OFF. Be sure that is set to on.

Let us know if this changes anything for you!

Ooooooh.  What model gateway is that?  A 5268AC or something else?

Thank you Caleb! As you can see, my app doesn’t have a toggle option.

Yes it’s a 5286AC Gateway

Okay, that's the issue.  The 5268AC isn't supported, only the BGWxxx Gateways are.  From https://www.att.com/support/article/u-verse-high-speed-internet/KM1399140/ : (the emphasis is mine)

Requirements

You can get AT&T Internet Security if you have:

  • AT&T Smart Home Manager to manage AT&T Internet Security features
  • AT&T Fiber plan based on current speed
  • BGW210 or BGW320 Wi-Fi gateway

If you meet these requirements, you’ll see an AT&T Internet Security card in Smart Home Manager. You can review the Terms & Conditions and install AT&T Internet Security from there.

Thanks JefferMC!!!

I'm going to bet I won’t be able to get an updated gateway, and I can’t use other equipment because I can’t turn off the router (I tried an Orbi, the 2 routers kept fighting so I had to give in).

It is possible to use an Orbi with a 5268AC.  You have to configure the 5268AC to threat the Orbi as its DMZplus device, and ensure the two routers use different subnets.

Thanks JefferMC! I assume the 5286AC router will still be visible, Even though I don’t plan on using it because I want the security features of the Orbi (apologies for the stupid questions, I’m not very technical)

The 5268AC would still be a Layer 3 routing hop and would keep a state table, but all unsolicited traffic from the 5268AC would be routed to your Orbi, and the Orbi would route all of the traffic it has to the 5268AC after performing NAT to the Dynamic Public IP address.  You can still access the Gateway's admin pages at its local IP address directly connected to it, or from a device connected to the Orbi.  (You could not, however, connect to the Orbi's Admin interface when connected to the Gateway.)
