Second 5Ghz Radio disabled on BGW 320-500 & 320-505?!

When i got this unit as replacement for the 210, I was thrilled to see it supported two different networks. Now you folks disabled the second one. Please revert this back to the 3 radio setup I need the three networks because i have one for legacy devices, one for newer and then one setup for my AX/wifi 6 devices. Please revert this immediately.
I am very unhappy when you make uneeded changes. If there is a way to revert this update and prevent future ones, let me know.

Thanks @julerobb1 for the update. What did you ask exactly after the "how can I help you" ? Usually really complicated for me to get someone competent.

Why are you replacing the extenders ? Btw do they work on WIFI ax ? Because last time I tried at my friend place, it was only AC.

And at my own place I never asked for the extenders.

Oof, had to reset my password to log in and my browser ate my post. At any rate...

Thank you all for this discussion thread. I got here from Google.

I noticed the same issue this morning. I previously had a wireless_5.1 radio on channel 40 and a wireless_5.2 on channel 161. Now, looking at a wifi analyzer on my phone, they are both collapsed under wireless_5.2. The gateway GUI gives no option to manage them separately.

I have to manage the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks separately because this is the only way one of my devices will connect. I also noticed some very poor 5 GHz signal range with the default setup with all radios under one SSID (no idea why, but splitting them and manually selecting channels has 100% resolved the issue).

Unfortunately, now with the 5 GHz radios managed jointly, a different device of mine will no longer detect the 5 GHz networks, and cannot maintain a reliable connection to the 2.4 GHz network. This is a compatibility issue with this device, but it's still frustrating that my previously-working setup is now broken due to a firmware update. I sincerely hope they issue a fix soon.

@Benjamin40 I simply stated extender issues, and all the questions it asked and it said One moment please while i check some things. Then it said hang on, im still checking some things.
a few moments later it said please hold, while i run some tests. One Moment. Then it said test results show you need to speak with an agent, please wait while I get someone to help you with this issue. Moments later it transferred me, and then another version of the system said this call may be recorded for quality and training purposes, yada yada.. few seconds later an advanced resolution specialist answered and he kindly listened and provided input.

with the automated system, you have to think like a human, but think like it at the same time. essentially, treat it like a 8 year old, and be patient with it.

Adding another voice to this problem. I get service via a third party provider that uses AT&T fiber and the BGW320-505 modem. I just upgraded to fiber about a month ago, and set up the second 5Ghz network for a finicky device, but three days ago that particular network disappeared. It looks like the firmware on the router auto-updated and now the second radio is gone. Hoping for a fix too!

Update: Was swapped to the 505, today its gone. it was there this morning. The router claims last reboot was four days ago, but four days ago it was on 2.8.4.

Hello @Julerobb1.

I'm wondering if you have an update on this issue.  Is AT&T going to change the  BGW-505 router to allow the second 5HZ radio to have a manually assignable channel?

The rumor I've heard is that they reserved the second 5 GHz radio for use in mesh backhaul with the optional AirTies extenders.

Hi @JefferMC.  Thank you for the quick response. @dave006 made a similar comment  that the second radio has been repurposed in the latest firmware load, but @julerobb1 seemed to be indicating here that this change has created other problems with other customers and a firmware update is pending. Does anyone have the final word from AT&T?

My Roku will not connect to the 5 GHz band with this change.  This is because with this new firmware, the router won't open a channel outside the DFS bands that the Roku needs.  I'm trying to understand my alternatives

Ok, I have a small update, but I'm unsure if it's accurate or not as I've heard many different points of view on it from At&t. The specialists/engineers have told me it's a bug and they are working on a fix, the techs say it's the gateway itself. Higher ups and regular support agents have said change was intentional as "people were changing one network and not the other and it was bugging the system" they do not have an if or when it will changed back to normal. Only thing they have suggested is factory resets, gateway swaps, waiting it out or buying your own equip and adding it to the 320, or changing to another provider..

Other things I've heard that is a theoretical solution is a firmware regression.

Here's what I've been told with exact words.

Hey there again, ******. After some research into this matter, I've found that after the last firmware update -- the 2 5GHz options are now under one SSID, and this can not be changed. They found a problem where people were updating one and not the other, and that was bugging the system for whatever reason. I apologize for the confusion. Feel free to let me know if you need any other assistance, I'll be available for another hour or so. ^C****J

Names above were omitted for privacy.

We're always looking at ways to improve our services. At this time, we don't have any information on when or if the change will be reverted, but I'll be happy to pass your feedback along. Do you have any other questions or concerns I can help you with? ^C****J

Again, these are things I've heard from various sources, including discord and reddit. While a couple of things are from ATT themselves, I'd say take most of this with a grain of salt. If anyone finds a workaround that's possible, or gets their hands on an 2.8.4 firmware image for the 320 that is a valid image and not been tampered with or anything let me know.
