PS5 not connecting to Internet with ATT fiber and Orbi Wifi Mesh Network

Hi,

I recently switched to ATT fiber. I also setup Orbi mesh network using IP passthrough. All the devices are connecting to the Orbi router and the satellites fine and the internet is also working fine on them. My PS5 is connecting to the network, but the internet is not working on it. It used to work fine before I switched to ATT fiber. I tried all different kinds of troubleshooting, like restarting the router, PS5, reset PS5 to factory defaults, updating the primary and secondary DNS on PS5. Nothing is working. I don’t have a way to hardwire it. Can someone please help me fix this issue?

Hello @wingsoffire8 , it will be our pleasure to help you get back to gaming on your PS5.

Since you've tested it at other locations and using your hotspot, we'd like to provide a few additional tips for troubleshooting your home internet service and see if we can't get you back to using your PS5.

Firstly, please check what NAT type you are getting when you connect to your internet via your PS5. There are three relevant types to look for.

  1. Type 1, Open: You will be able to connect to any servers, and have your peers connected to you safely. This is optimal for speed and performance, but your data will be shared unrestricted.
  2. Type 2, Moderate: You will be connected to the internet, but games may lag, and some games may not allow you to host multiplayer sessions. This is a more secure connection, in regards to your personal data, but you may not be able to use all the internet functions of your console.
  3. Type 3, Strict: You are connected to the internet, but your speed may be too slow to connect to online sessions, and you will not be able to host.

Please let us know if you are able to see this displayed in your device settings.

If you are not able to connect your device to the internet at all, we recommend a few things to try to get it connected:

  1. Try connecting via an ethernet cable in the meantime. You will get your most optimal performance using a direct connection.
  2. Determine if there are any sources of interference around your console such as other electronics, mirrors, radio devices, metallic objects, or if your console is too distant from your gateway to receive a good signal. Try moving your PS5 closer, if you can. Try connecting while closer to your gateway to test if this may be a factor.
  3. Download the Smart Home Manager App to view connected devices. It will also have some guided troubleshooting options that may be helpful and can help you determine dead zones, and if you need a Wi-Fi extender.
  4. Make sure that your internet speed is capable of supporting the PS5 network requirements. Let us know what internet plan you are on, and what model of Residential Gateway you have.
  5. Optimize your network performance to make sure you have the bandwidth to support your online play.
  6. Factory reset your gateway to remove any settings that may be interfering with your connection.

Please let us know if any of this helps. We also recommend reaching out to Sony's support team for more specific options.
