Pixma ix6820 wireless printer won’t connect after AT&T installed new fiber network

Hi, I recently switched from Xfinity to AT&T fiber, and ever since my printer could not be detected on the network. I'm a Mac user and have a Pixma ix6820 printer. I've tried every troubleshooting step possible and also through the Network app tool and nothing has worked. I work from home and this is extremely frustrating. Can someone please help?

@vdg75  I too am a Mac user and have Pixma printer. I had to manually configure the printer to work with my router, but after that it works just fine from anywhere in the house. I set it up to use the Guest Network (which is 2.4GHz). The Guest Network is assigned a different name and password from my primary network. However, I do not use AT&T as my ISP so I am free to use my own modem and router.

Hi!  I am also having this same problem with my Pixma MX922 printer since upgrading to AT&T fiber network.  Now I can't even get the printer to show up under "Printers" in Mac system preferences.  When I check the setting of the printer, it show I am connected to the AT&T gateway.  It shows the same connection in the Smart Home Manager App.  The same thing is happening on 2 desktop Macs and a Mac laptop.  I'd appreciate any help to this frustrating problem.

@p_prentis  Did you read the above responses? Use the Guest Network for your printer. AT&T's gateways are very poor when it comes to connecting 2.4GHz and 5GHz devices correctly.

Hi there, p_prentis. We understand that you are unable to view your printer on your Mac computer. We can help with that.

Since your printer is connected to the internet, then you might want to think about reinstalling or updating your printer drivers on the computer.

There are a variety of sources that you can use to update the printer drivers. You can either update them online or you can call the printer manufacture and get the updated drivers. You will need to uninstall them first and then install the updated driver.  Also, you can use the information provided by our ACE, @OttoPylot, who is one of our superusers. Thanks, @OttoPylot for providing the accepted solution for this concern.

If there is anything else that we can do for you, please let us know.

Thank you for being an AT&T user.

Hi Matthew -

I have tried using the Guest Network that I set up.  I also uninstalled the driver and downloaded them again from (Edited per community guidelines).  The problem is that I do not see the printer in Mac System Preferences after I install the drivers.  I took a little "test" provided by (Edited per community guidelines) and was able to do everything right until the end when it asked me to enter http:// and the printer IP address in the search bar.  Nothing happened after several attempts, and it timed out.  The (Edited per community guidelines) "test" said that maybe the router (gateway) has a firewall that will not let me connect to the printer.  I'm even having the same problems on my imac that is connected with Ethernet.

@p_prentis  What OS are you running? Have you tried to connect from the printer? You don't see the Printer folder under System -> Library - > Printers, or Library -> Printers?

Hi -

I'm running 10.15.7 (Catalina).  Under Library -> Printers -> (Edited per community guidelines) -> BJ Printer -> Utilities, I see (Edited per community guidelines) IJ Printer Utility.  Under System -> Library -> Printers, I see nothing related to a (Edited per community guidelines) printer, just a couple of USB Generic Printing Class plugins.  When I go to System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners, and click on + to add the mx922 i just downloaded, nothing shows up.

Did you check with (Edited per community guidelines) to make sure that the new drivers for the Pixma are compatible with your OS and how to install them (all of the parts you need)? The biggest complaint I've had with (Edited per community guidelines) is that the manual installation of the necessary components are not really clear. I've had better luck by download the .dmg files to my desktop and then installing them one by one from there.

My wife is running Monterey, 12.6.8, and under Library -> Printers is the (Edited per community guidelines) folder (BJ Printer, IJScanner). Under System -> Library -> Printers -> Libraries, are the generic USB printing plugins. You should also have a (Edited per community guidelines) folder under Applications.

On my M1 Mac running Ventura 13.5 the locations are pretty much the same.

Does the gateway even see the MAC address of the (Edited per community guidelines)?
