New LiftMaster 828LM MyQ Internet Gateway will not connect to New ATT BGW320-500 Fiber Router/Gateway

I had an old "copper" ATT router/cable modem that my MyQ device was connected via ethernet to. It worked for many years. ATT upgraded me to fiber and installed the BGW320-500, and the MyQ device was not recognized by the BGW320-500, as in, it never showed up as a device as checked by ATT Tech Support nor in my SmartHome app. The ethernet light on the port it's plugged into is green. LiftMaster Tech Support said I needed a newer version of the MyQ gateway (old one dated 2014), so I bought one and tried everything with no luck - same exact problem. (New MyQ gateway dated 2021). Neither LiftMaster Tech Support nor ATT Tech Support had any idea of what was going on or how to fix it. I upgraded to fiber only to loose capability I had with my ancient cable modem. I have noticed many postings on the internet in various places that other people have had this exact same problem, but there has been no solution posted. Has anyone solved this problem?

This has come up in here before.  Something about the LiftMaster doesn't want to play nice with AT&T gateways.

The solution.....get a dumb Ethernet switch and plug that into the gateway and then plug the LiftMaster into the switch.

Netgear GS505 or TP-Link TL-SG105 are two popular switches.

GOOD NEWS: The new Netgear GS305 ($15) solved the problem! I have it connected as follows: MyQ Gateway to Netgear GS305 to BGW320. Also, my OLD LiftMaster gateway (the one manufactured in 2014, model CIGBU listed on back) worked perfectly! I did not need a new MyQ Gateway like LiftMaster Tech Support said, so I'm returning it for a refund ($62). Thanks for all the great suggestions from everyone.

The BGW 320 802.11x / 802.11ac band steering implementation seems to be confusing a lot of older clients developed to use 802.11g.  My recommendation would be to enable the Guest network on your BGW 320 and use that network to set up your MyQ.

Alternately, get a third party router or access point and let the MyQ connect to the network via that.

JefferMC, thanks for the suggestion. So just to understand your second suggestion, you are saying try a 3rd party router/switch/access point (like a NetGear switch)? And the connections should be MyQ gateway to 3rd party device to BGW320?

For the first recommendation, the Guest network, is that something I would could do from my laptop connected to/talking directly to the BGW320?

Thanks again.

morph27, neither I nor ATT Tech Support person could see the device at all - no IP address assigned nor connected to the internet. Yes, visited liftmaster site and spoke to their Tech Support. Already had a liftmaster account for devices I was controlling before with the ancient ATT cable modem. Everyone seems to agree (you, me, LiftMaster & ATT) that when I plug it in, it should get an IP address and see the internet. Hence, why I posted in this forum looking for an answer.

Wait... I over looked something basic, and for that I apologize.  You said you have a physical Ethernet cable coming from the MyQ and hooking to a LAN port of the BGW 320?

JefferMC, yes, it is a physical ethernet cable from the MyQ device to a LAN port on the BGW320. There is no other way to connect it to the BGW320. T

no IP address assigned nor connected to the internet

Of course, no IP = no access anywhere including LAN.

When you connect to BGW320 management page (192.168.1.254), 828LM device isn't listed there? Did you try factory resetting the LM device? Sounds like there's a problem with LM device leasing an IP address. Is there a way to update the 828LM firmware? Until you get an IP, the device isn't connecting anywhere. It's not in the LAN either.

Yes, I have checked the BGW320 management page and the device isn't listed. I have tried resetting the LM device while on the line with LM Tech Support. I agree, there's a problem with the LM device leasing an IP address. Very strange problem that neither LM Tech Support nor ATT Tech Support could resolve. And, as I mentioned, both the old LM device (2014) and the new LM device (2021) behave the exact same way.
