AT&T Internet requires the use of leased AT&T equipment.

If your a grandfathered LEGACY DSL account with 150G data cap, no unlimited option OR a cellular internet HOMEBASE product using 4G LTE, 5G or 5G+ where available... you purchase the equipment.
IF a hardwired UVERSE based internet service with 1T data cap or unlimited if FTTP these gateways belong to the company, you are charged a monthly equipment fee currently $10 since 2016.
ATT FIXED WIRELESS cell tower service also has ATT equipment with monthly charge.
Note that ACCESS accounts have the equipment fee waived.
