iPhone wifi slow on AT&T fiber
Looking for a solution to an issue with wifi on my home AT&T Fiber network 1000 Mbps. This only occurs with iPhones connected to the my home wifi. The majority of the time my iPhone X is very slow when connected to my home wifi (10 mbps or less). The exact same behavior occurs on my wife's iPhone X as well. Only if I disconnect and reconnect to the wifi via the phone directly or resetting the router does the connect start off fast for about 5 minutes or less. Does not matter what the signal strength is or where in the home the phone is located.
Other connected devices, such as my Macbook, TVs, Firestick, etc. do not get a slow connection. They get 200+ Mbps over wifi.
Connecting to other wifi spots that are not our home wifi the wifi works as expected and extremely well on the iPhones, which leads me to believe there is a setting / recognition from AT&T router or service that is specifically slowing the iPhone. Does anyone else have this problem?
- iPhone connects to the 5ghz band
- Tried manually specifying the DNS server to use, such as 1.1.1.1, on the iPhone
- Tried assigning IPV4 address to iPhone when it connects, rather than letting the router choose
- Changed channels of wifi and used AT&T mobile app to auto-optimize channel selection
- Reset of router does not resolve (ARRIS BGW210-700, Software version 1.8.18)
- When wifi is turned off on iPhone to disconnect from home wifi, LTE connects and is instantly faster

You have to remember, due to Apple thinking qualcomm was cheating them and charging too much for their modems, they dropped Qualcomm modems and moved to Intel modems. Intel modems in iPhones just don't perform very well. Apple keeps trying to tweak them with modem firmware updates, but that has had very little affect on their performance. Apple realized their mistake and completely dropped their (Edited per community guidelines) against Qualcomm and agreed to using Qualcomm modems beginning in 2020. When Apple was using both Intel and Qualcomm modems, Apple had to throttle the Qualcomm modem because they were twice as fast as Intel and they didn't want people complaining about how much slower their Intel modem was.
Bottom line: Make sure you have the latest IOS update installed so you have the latest modem firmware. Hopefully this is the last year we'll have to put up with this Intel modem issue.

did anybody find the configuration problem? And no it’s the the WiFi ch’s or IPv6. Router is doing something . I believe it’s the phone adapter that causes it but I didn’t test it for long . Using the router without it connected to router.

I had a similar issue with AT&T Fixed Wireless. Browsing and streaming was fine on all except iPhones. iPad Pro was fine. Running a speed text on my iPhone showed 25-30mbs which is the max I can get here, though browsing was still slow and videos would always buffer. After lots of trial and error I noticed that compared the wifi connection settings between my iPad Pro and my iPhone, "Configure Proxy" was turned ON on my iPhone and OFF on my iPad. I switched it off and now my phone loads like it should.

I figured it out. I have the iPhone X as well! I went to the router, then home network, then MAC Filtering, then MAC Filtering Entry scroll to find your device, then select of the 2.4 GHz and leave the 5 GHz selected. You will then see it on the MAC Fliter List with an asterisk next to the 5GHz! Then put the 5GHz on Whitelist. It worked once I went on Instagram and noticed everything was downloading faster! Also I left the IPv6 on.

I found the solution.disconnect the phone adapter restart router is fixed the lag.
But the only thing that’s (Edited per community guidelines) is once you connect the adapter back problem comes back. So who ever AT&T expert said this router don’t support apple talk something is absolutely wrong!
Has anybody found out why the adapter causing this? I use sonic and AT&T provides the service .

I am having the same problem. Crazy thing on my end is that if I swipe up to bring up my iphone menu (airplane mode, brightness, etc.) it immediately connects and loads whatever I'm waiting for. What the (Edited per community guidelines) is happening??

Does anyone know if an att technician would be able to help with this or is that not allowed by att? I don’t have a clue how to do this.

Yeah, I'm on the 300 fiber data speed & my WiFi is pathetic - loses signal continually, zoom says its unstable every time. I tried the forum but AT & T answered & locked me out so I've no idea what their solution was. I am from Africa where at slow speeds my wifi was far more stable!! Nothing wrong with the fixed connection, just a pathetic Wifi router I guess... happens with iphone, ipads & laptops

Ok so I’ve been pulling my hair out. Tried all the solutions listed and nothing has worked. Finally broke down and bought a TP Link (specifically with the Mu-mimo mentioned in other comments). It seems to somewhat fix the problem the first few days. But now my iPad is still “buffering”. I did the IP Passthrough and shut off the auto-login for the original ATT WiFi signal on my device. But my iPad still shows the circle trying to connect in that upper right corner even though it says I’m connected to the TP link 5G signal.
what else? I’m so annoyed I have to pay for internet AND had to spend money to get it to work mildly better but it’s still unreliable. And we are not an overly “smart” house. A few apple devices, personal computer and few others but nothing near what should be (Edited per community guidelines) issues—-and other than our last ISP throttling speed we never had these issues.

We would be happy to help you resolve your buffering issues with your IPad @Nicolehanna12!
We recommend using the Smart Home Manager app. It can help you ensure you are getting the most out of your WiFi and troubleshoot any internet connection issues.
Use it to check the follow:
Let us know if that resolves the issue!
