How to turn off wifi radios on BGW?

I have a BGW 700-210 that I've connected my personal router to via Ethernet. I went into the BGW's settings page and turned off the wifi radios, but they're still broadcasting and devices can still connect to the AT&T network. I talked (way too long) with support and they claimed I need to disconnect my router first, then the "off" setting will stick. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is that accurate?

Go to device list. Click clear and rescan.

If WiFi radios are still on.

Click save at the bottom of the WiFi page. Then continue in the next page. Look for changes saved in red at the top of the WiFi page.

If you have an external router connected, there is always possibility of conflict, so that is just some basic troubleshooting to try. I would also include powering off the Gateway for a couple minutes in case it needs to clear some stuck residual memory.
