How can I rename a device? Also, why does my printer have a "68" in the third IP position instead of "1"?

1) I want to rename devices to something more intelligent.

2) Why does my printer have a "68" in the third IP position instead of "1"? I can ping it in a browser but not sure why it is 68. Using passthrough on the ATT 505 router.

3) How can I turn the status of a device to "on"?

The most likely reason for the 68 for the third octet is because that's the IP range the router it connected to was setup to give out.

  1. What do you mean "using passthrough?"
  2. What do you mean "ATT 505" Router?
  3. If you're using IP Passthrough to an AT&T BGW320-505 router, let me say that it is (a) more important to tell us "BGW320" than "505" and (b) more important to tell us what the IP Passthrough is configured to connect to...

The AT&T residential gateways learn the namse of devices from those devices. It does not provide a way to override those names. Some devices allow you to rename their name thru their own interface and some do not.
