Horrible evening connectivity and timeouts in the Austin/Dallas areas now on its 11th day!

Spinning off a new thread instead of mixing into that (laughable) gaming latency one.

I went back through my logs, this issue has actually been happening every evening since January 9th! Tonight it started early at 6:15 PM CST, likely due to being a weekend.

As noted previously, this is not just a ping/traceroute issue, this is connectivity failure and timeouts with many sites, including Google, YouTube, and any sites that import Google content (i.e. everyone).

Here's the latest, 565 ms through to 8.8.8.8:

$ traceroute -n -w 1 8.8.8.8
traceroute to 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets
 1  192.168.1.254  0.417 ms  0.243 ms  0.506 ms
 2  99.a.b.1  1.511 ms  1.429 ms  1.455 ms
 3  71.149.77.250  3.054 ms  2.966 ms  3.055 ms
 4  * * *
 5  32.130.17.87  30.799 ms  46.03 ms  57.468 ms
 6  12.255.10.124  601.749 ms 12.255.10.122  855.111 ms 12.255.10.124  594.659 ms

 8  8.8.8.8  564.383 ms  562.933 ms  562.999 ms

Hello Community, I hope I have some good news.  First, thank you all so much for your fantastic information, troubleshooting, and willingness to provide specific examples.

Our network team feels they have a handle on what the issue is, and are working to resolve.  It may take a few days, but hope to have it resolved before that.

I will respond when the issue is resolved, but please post back here if you see improvement in the coming days.  No more examples are needed.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but truly appreciate the hard work of all those that posted.

Thanks

Tim, AT&T Community Specialist

Now up to over 900 ms latency to Google properties, streams and gaming start to time out. It gets worse as the night goes on, in case that wasn't already clear.

From this evening. AGAIN this continues for over 7+ days straight. Would be nice to see an ATT response, as this is a very significant latency issue that has been demonstrated to exist within their IP block/network. We are talking about over 60x what the normal latency is. Could barely get through a single YouTube short without buffering and connection loss several times for a 30 sec video on ATT Fiber 1000 plan.

I've been really patient over the past week and have tried to provide as much useful information as possible, however it would be nice to at least see a basic acknowledgement of the issue and perhaps a status or timeline for how long this is expected to go on.

It looks like the full duration tonight was from 6:15 to 10:50 PM CST.

Posting to say I’ve noticed the same issue and would like an ATT response

I will also note that I did have an ATT technician out 2 days ago to check everything over on my end. He ended up swapping out some old connectors for a little bit better signal.

However, the core issue still persists. I am keeping a constant plot going for anytime my PC is on to gather data/history.

This also feels like an issue that would go under-reported by folks who don't understand general networking and call in to support only to be told "Hey your ATT modem/gateway looks good from here. Have a good day, goodbye!". So hopefully this may help many others in the area that are almost certainly experiencing the issue, but don't understand what is going on.

The linked help article makes the assumption that the issue is on our end, but that is clearly not the case as there are many datapoints from different individuals describing the same issue with ATT’s network. Here’s a plot of latency from last night measured on my end that aligns with the data others have shared.

@ATTHelp If this issue was with equipment, it a.) wouldn't affect 5+ people in this thread or 20+ in other threads and b.) wouldn't have sub-2 ms latency to the first upstream hop.

Come on.

@ATTHelp We've demonstrated where this issue is occurring and it is definitely NOT a device on someone's network causing massive latency inside of ATT's network.

The two IP blocks affected seem to be the following:

32.0.0.0/9   &  12.0.0.0/8

See current ownership registration info below for the previous IP CIDR blocks:
