Help. I can't access my surveillance cameras using BGW210-700

For years I have had ATT with a 2-Wire modem and had zero problems accessing my surveillance cameras from outside of my home network. The 2-Wire had the option to create a pinhole in the firewall and assign a port number to each device and I could access them when away from home using the public IP address and the port number. I have a 4 camera DVR that I access, and then three different inside cameras I would access with each having their own port number.

Three weeks ago my internet went out and it took ATT three weeks to fix it; something to do with a line in the area got damaged. When they fixed it, they said I would need a new modem now and they gave me the BGW210-700 with the 1.6.7 software. I was trying to figure out how to setup my cameras and went to the NAT/Gaming in the Firewall setup in the modem. I assigned the port numbers I used before for each device and things were working. I used my new public IP address with the port number and could access each device. I was using my cell phone with WI-FI turned off so I could test it like I was away from home. Something strange was if I was on my WI-FI and tried the public IP address it would not work, but I used the local network IP with the port number it did work.

I was able to access my cameras for a couple of days and then it stopped working. I can still access my cameras on my network when I am home, but I can't access them away from home using the public IP and port! If I restart the modem, I can access the cameras one time only using the public IP and then it doesn't work after that. Restart the modem again and it will work one time and not work again. What the heck is going on?????? Can anyone help???

Hi @stominnormin,

We found a solution on our forums page with customers having similar issues.

We also recommend doing a factory reset and using the link to find the specific port- forwarding set-up instructions for your gateway.

Its a bug caused by the new firmware version for the BGW-210. Port forwarding simply stops working after about 30 mins to a hour and can only be fixed again by rebooting the gateway. From what I read port forwarding works correctly if you use the BGW-210 in IP Passthrough mode with another router. But other than that nothing we can do. No official acknowledgement from AT&T about this buy yet there are several several topics in these forums about port forwarding being broken with the new firmware and pages of people confirming the same experience. I will be very surprised if AT&T gets another firmware update rolling out that fixes this in less than 3 to 6 months. If you have to have this issue fixed now contact customer service and request they send you the Pace 5268AC gateway. It's older, has slightly slower wifi but its firmware dose not have this problem.

Honestly, just call 1800-288-2020 and when you get connected to an agent, let them know about the bad firmware update and that you would like them to send you a different router (5286AC). I called them Monday morning and received the router Tuesday around 5pm. I had to call ATT back so have them provision the router.

Make sure you ask them to ship the router instead of having a tech install, it's faster (assuming your comfortable doing it yourself).

hope that helps

I need wireless internet connectivity for the DVR of my security cameras. My gateway is an AT&T BGW210-700. What hardware and software do I need to buy to accomplish this wireless connection?

I got the 5286C router from AT&T however I experienced the same problem as with the BGW 210. Now what??????

Again AT&T is not dealing with the issue. Either the staff doesn't know or have the knowledge to effectively deal with this issue.

It would be helpful if AT&T would publish some technical information to acknowledge the issue and time frame of expected fix !

I am having identical issues. Three router changes, two service call visits, even a supervisor visited. The first tech that visited got both ports opened and three days later one was being blocked again! The supervisor said he was sending this problem to the "President's office" via some portal available to them. No contact from AT&T. This is about the last straw for me with AT&T as the ports I need opened appear to be common ports used by security cams.

Unfortunately the above suggestion or suggested fix does not work. The port forwarding works for about an hour after resetting/rebooting the router and then stops. Not a permanent fix. AT&T do you have any one who is aware of this issue and knows what the real fix is?????????

I'm not clear on which gateway you are using now.  And what is the firmware version on that unit?

Go into the BGW's interface with your browser pointed to 192.168.1.254 and go to System Information on the Device tab and look for the Software Version number.

OK !

The Software version is 2.4.4. BTW I did have the 2 cameras working remotely for a while. But now i can only access them by remote access. The do not connect from home now. However when connected by remote access I have no control of them. Can not span or move cameras through Insteon  app. Use to be able to span and rotate them till there was a firm ware update. That is when all the trouble began. On this site it was recommended to get the 5286AC router and it would work. Not true for me. All I could that on to do is connect locally and not remotely. So I have  partial remote access now and that is all. We will see how long that will last????
