Fiber cable in back yard not buried yet. Hard to mow lawn.

A few weeks ago we had high speed installed and the cable was laid out on top of our back yard lawn. Since then nobody has been out to mark any underground utility lines in preparation for the cable to be trenched underground. This makes it very difficult to mow my back yard now that it is growing. Please advise when this can be expedited.

Don't worry, RugerDan, we can show you how to request a bury for the Fiber cable.

Just call us any time at 800-288-2020 to report the exposed cable. Provide your account information and say, “Line is down.” Once you're routed to an agent, you'll begin the process of scheduling a time to have the cable buried.

For information on how to check the status of the bury, you can visit our web page on Reporting unburied cables, exposed wires, or downed lines. Just go to the section titled Check an issue already reported near the bottom of the page.

Also, I've searched the AT&T site but am unable to find a phone number to talk to a real (non-automated) person, or even to find an e-mail address to contact someone about this.

Now here's what really happens, particularly if you have an AT&T hub in your back yard:

Technicians will connect your neighbors to that hub and regularly won't complete the job by burying the wire. You call 3-5x over the course of as many months to get someone from AT&T to come out and do just that, they send out a technician to "document" it and submit a ticket. For one reason or another, either the documenting technician doesn't submit the ticket or no one on the line burying crew does anything about it. AT&T will never check in to see if the cable was buried and that your request was completed. Excellent customer service, AT&T!
