Compatible Routers w/ AT&T Fiber
I've got the Internet 1000 plan and the Arris BGW210-700. While I enjoy saving money with AT&T, the modem/router I used with Cox (Netgear Nighthawk X4S) delivered faster speeds. Are there better modem/routers that work with fiber that will perform better than what AT&T left with me?

Try changing to different WiFi channels. Being in an apartment you will get a lot of interference from other devices.

I’m sure you got this figured out by now. But you can do some research on how to increase your internet speeds and connections. You can simply use the provided AT&T device as a modem, and turn off that devices WiFi signals. Then, do research on the AT&T compatible routers. One of the first google results provides some helpful info. You have to remember ISP’s get bids from hardware companies and typically have to settle with simply average routers or else they’d be charging us $20-$40 a month for one that’s worth a dang.

I’m not sure if this is a disconnect from your ISP, or interference from your neighbors. While none of them are directly connected to your router, their routers share the same WiFi channels and wave lengths. These can disrupt one another. See a comment below from one of the AT&T employees that explains this further. There are 3 default channels that are typically more crowded. Manually change your internet’s settings to be on a less crowded channel. Also, I’ve found that using the AT&T device as a modem only and my own router increases speeds simply because it’s a $200 router I got second hand for around $75.

If anyone else is thinking about switching to AT&T Gig speed fiber, DON"T DO IT! We switched to save some money but on average i get 50 meg speeds. I have two pc's that are hard wired to the AT&T router. Both are Gig speed capable. I even put in new cat7 cables. The fiber is supposed to be an asynchronous connection but my upload is half as fast as the download. I have had AT&T techs come out twice and say they get 50 meg on there cell phones so everything is fine. I tell them that the router is crap or at the least not configured correctly. They just tell me the problem is in my equipment. They are clueless!

Hello @MichealTan,
Let’s discuss your router.
First we just want to clarify when you say “aircon” are you referring to air conditioning?
In reference to your question we will review the environment your router is in. There are many common mistakes that can affect your Wi-Fi signal and cause a handful of different issues.
To ensure you Wi-Fi is healthy and optimized we recommend the following
If you have the same troubles after ensuring your modem is in a good location we recommend trying out our Smart Home Manager app. This app has lots of great features that will help maximize your Wi-Fi.
We hope this helps @MichealTan, please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
