Compatibility with ATT fiber Equipment
I currently have the ATT fiber modem/router and 3 extenders. I have concluded that this equipment is very unreliable. I bought the 6 stream WiFi 6 cable modem Router from Netgear and also purchased the nighthawk mesh WiFi 6 System. I now understand that the cable modem router I purchased may not be directly compatible with ATT fiber? Can you please advise how I need to install the equipment I purchased behind the ATT modem router I am forced to rent?

The basic answer is that you can use almost any router with the AT&T gateway as long as you place the gateway in pass-through mode, which allows the new router to take over the WiFi and router options. You still have use the gateway to connect to AT&T.

What are the Netgear model numbers for the stuff you bought?

I have purchased the “AX6” model cable modem / router, and the AX3000 WiFi 6 whole house mesh system. Both products are Netgear Nighthawk. The combo of these products cost me around $500.

OttoPylot- Are there instructions somewhere on how to setup this “pass through mode” that you noted in your response?

@GlanH Yes. As @browndk26 you can Google for the instructions or Search the AT&T forums for links and instructions. However, you have the Netgear gateway (modem/router combo) so I don't know if there will be issues with the modem part of the Netgear gateway because you will still be required to use AT&T's modem to connect to AT&T's network.
I use the Netgear AX4200 mesh system in my home but I don't use AT&T as my ISP so I'm allowed to use my own modem to connect to my provider.

@GlanH It sounds like you have the CAX30 series gateway (modem and router combined) and that will not work with any AT&T Internet service since it requires a coax connection for the incoming service.
If the mesh system is the little square black boxes (MK or MR series) then you would use THIS procedure to do IP Passthrough. Use the DHCPS-fixed section under Motorola for the specifics.
