BGW320-500 Firewall Homenetwork Security Speed drop
I enabled the AT&T Advance security on the Smart Home Manager and after doing so the speed on the ethernet ports on the gateway dramatically. I was getting upload speeds from 850 to 900Mbps download and upload before enabling; after enabling the speeds dropped to the 750s/Mbps for downloads and dropped dramatically to 150/Mbps for uploads. I have confirmed with going into the router options and disabling Firewall>Security Options>Homenetwork Security. Why such a big drop for the added security? Is it worth it?

Devices now have very fast packet handling that can be handled in low-level firmware. However, that fast packet handling is not compatible with any kind of in-depth packet processing. You'll see this in other routers where some security and monitoring options turn off performance features. That's what's happening here: the low level network hardware has to pass the packets to the CPU for inspection and that hurts performance.

I understand that but it was such a huge drop in the upload speed. The only thing that I have connected to the gateway is my Google Nest WiFi router and a printer. My Google Nest router already has a security chip that should take care of the security of my devices.

While security in depth is never a bad idea (i.e. doing security processing at multiple levels of your network), it can come at a cost. If the Google Nest is doing the processing you need, then I'd disable the Gateway processing.
