BGW210-700 replacement

Replaced my router gateway device thingy today easy enough with the ATT home app. ATT support sent it to me because I’m seeing max speeds of 200MB download and 80MB upload on Gb fiber. And I’ve been losing connection intermittently. So I replaced router and rebooted everything. Now I have internet connection but everything still sees the old SSID and uses the old password lol. Even Smart Home app.
same speeds on meteor tests.
but that old router is in a box by my front door. New shiny router is plugged in and running. But nothing can even ‘Discover’ the gateway/router. 2 hours with various ATT support is enough for a Sunday of non answers.
I am assuming I could just do a manual change in the app but I find this really odd and even stranger that ATT support (at least 6 different people) had no intelligent ideas or explanations.
many thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Seriously thinking of moving to Verizon for home internet. I work from home and I can’t have meetings dropping like this. And the support today was horrendous. Bummed yet feeling blessed :) TIA

When AT&T sends a replacement gateway and you hook it up, it automatically downloads info like wifi SSID and password and other info that was used on your old gateway.  The idea is that it's plug and play and the user doesn't need to do anything to configure your network devices.

Don't know what "Meteor" tests are.  First, run the speed test in the Smart Home Manager and see what you're numbers are.  That's a test from the gateway  directly to AT&T and not what wifi devices will see.

AT&T "support" is in a perpetual mode of no intelligent ideas or explanations.  😁

What does "nothing can 'discover' the router" look like from your end?   So your wifi devices see your old wifi name, right?  And when you try and connect, what happens.  Again, if you're trying to find the wifi network on the label of the replacement gateway that is incorrect.

Finally, what's the make/model of the device that's getting 200/80 on a speed test?

Thank you for the prompt response! Couple hours into this and sanity check! Lol. After posting I paused and thought perhaps the att support rep from Columbia who sent me the replacement router just failed to mention or I failed to hear that the SSID and password would remain the same. Dude was actually really cool. And he too concurred about frustrations when has to deal with att support in his personal time lol

meteor or any other free app that tests WiFi speed thru ping tests etc.

etc fairly accurate and I don’t really care about pole speed right.

the delta between where att junctions into my house and where my home office is located is what matters and what I can’t seem to find resolution

from the pole to my outside junction is literally a couple hundred feet (city living). Running speed tests with your app shows 900MB of course.
standing next to old router and new router show same results of approx 200 down 80 up

and degraded as one progresses towards my office. So tomorrow I have several important online meetings and I hope they don’t drop. Also hope my email doesn’t drop and force reboot throughout the day. I’m so frustrated.
none of this was a problem and I’ve been doing my thing from same location with same equipment for 8 years. And now I’m paying so much more money per month lol

feeling stupid about not appreciated at all. So much for loyalty right.

There can be a big disparity between speed test sites on gig connections so I always suggest people use the Ookla Speedtest app.

You didn't answer about this 200/80 device.  It's entirely possible those numbers are correct and not indicative of an issue.  So knowing what it is when you're ready to address the speed issue.

The disconnects are a bigger problem and while replacing the gateway is a valid step, many times the new one will inherit the problem indicating that it's not really the gateway.  Let's hope you're in the first group.

Ookla SpeedtesT

ill check out the app.
I’m just walking around with my IPhone. As a rule of thumb and that’s all it’s fairly accurate. I travel a lot. Sometimes rural. Sometimes crowds etc.  ballgames even lol. Can even check 4g speeds.

so that’s the device I’m using to say 200/80 with various ping speeds. And again, I believe it’s a sustainable barometer.

desktop I ain’t bragging but I got a 2009 Mac (lol) and a couple windows laptops and other stuff. When the router stops it stops for all. Not everything has a switchover to cellular hence the bigger problems.

next solution as I’m running out of patience will be to leverage my southern facing office window and go celestial perhaps. I’m getting a new cellphone as well as was hoping to tie it all together but (Edited per community guidelines). I can’t even get my internet straight lol

i appreciate your help. Thank you all.

Is your iPhone as new as your Mac? 😁   Which model?

Do you have any wired devices and if so, do they lose connection when the wifi goes south?

It sounds like the BGW isn't close to your office but it might be helpful to know what the various LEDs on the front of it do when you lose the connection.

Turn off ipv6 and see if that helps the disconnects. Where is the gateway located in reference to your office? What Wi-Fi band does the wifi device connect to? It might be worthwhile to rename both bands. Then run tests to see if one band connects better than the other. What make and model Wi-Fi device are you getting the low speeds on?

So this morning I downloaded the ookla speed test app on my work iPhone which is a 12.
same results. Fast enough next to the router. Slow in my office. Then I lost connection! 2 green lights remained on on the front of BGW router.
hmmm need to get to work but now I’m gonna capture this windmill or die trying!!!

Don't worry, we're going to keep trying to get you to like us again. 😁

We're numbers (and pictures) guys so we don't like "fast enough" or "slow".  What are the actual test results near the BGW and in the office?

How far away from the BGW is the office?  What's between the two spots (besides rooms), like wall materials, heavy appliances like refrigerators or water heaters (or even big fish tanks!) anything that might knock down the wifi signal strength more that just the distance might be expected to do?
