BGW210-700 : Disney+ app on android phone and fire tv does not work

Log file indicates that incoming TCP server connection to router is discarded. Reason : "Generic Discards"

Disney+ app works through VPN.

Can anyone help in fixing this?

Hi @ailango, we are delighted to help.

One of our community forums members @tonydi, suggest, that your are only connecting to 2.4GHz networks and because the AT&T gateway combines 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands into one network name (SSID).

The solution is to go into the gateway:

  1. Go to Wifi->Wifi Advanced.
  2. Give the 5GHz band a different SSID,
  3. Save the setting change.
  4. Reboot the gateway and then try connecting

Let us know if this helps.

Why would Disney+ be making an unsolicited request to your router?  How do you know those log lines have anything to do with Disney+?

What error do you get from Disney+ on your phone?

I cleared the log, connected only the android phone to the router, tried logging into  disney+ and refreshed the log. There were a series of incoming connection packets that were discarded. I am assuming this is Disney+ trying and failing connection to their servers. The only error message I see on my android phone is "Unable to connect"

Disney+ seems to work fine on my Roku, my PC browser and apple phone/ipad and apple TV. It seems to be a problem only with android type devices - fire tv and android phone/TV. I think the android version of the app does not play well with BGW210-700.

Anyone else have this issue? If it works for you what is the firmware version of BGW210-700 you are running? My version is 2.8.7.

Reset of gateway did not help. I have a netgear router connected to the gateway and all my devices connect to the netgear router. I setup IP passthrough, cascaded router, turned off firewall, packet filter and wireless on the gateway but it still does not help. Now the logs say that the gateway is discarding "Invalid IP Packets" even with firewall turned off. My Roku, PC and IOS devices work fine. Only the android based devices such as Fire TV, Android TV and android phone fail. Android phone works when on mobile internet and over VPN on ATT Fiber. This leads me to conclude that the android based Disney+ app does not work with ATT gateway. Anyone has any more ideas?

Try clearing the log and doing nothing with your Android phone for 5 minutes.  I bet you see the same discards in your log.  The Internet is filled with bots searching for open ports.

The "accepted solution" posted by ATTHelp is invalid and not relevant to this issue.

I do not use the wifi on ATT Gateway. I use a netgear router wifi connected by wire to the ATT Gateway. I disable wireless radios on the ATT Gateway.

Hi, @ailango.

We want to make sure our gateway is not malfunctioning, we recommend that you disconnect the third party gateway and run everything off of the AT&T provided gateway.

Let us know if this helps.
