BGW 320-505 and new ip phones

I have a BGW320-505 and with 3 business phone numbers with Att.   Thinking of upgrading office phones from analog to ip phones.   Was wondering how do ip phones obtain voice service ?   It is as simple as the phones being connected by Ethernet to the gateway or does the modem need to be configured to do so?

I'd check with the IP phone provider.

What spoom2 says.  It depends on your service.  Some services will provide phones with integrated ATA and they'll attach directly to the Ethernet.  Some services will provide an ATA to which you can hook analog phones.  Some services provide what amounts to a PBX that runs in your business and connects to the Internet.  Some services will provide phones that connect via Wi-Fi.

You may need to disable the SIP ALG feature on the Gateway's Firewall > Firewall Advanced page if you're having issues when setting this up.
