AT&T fiber Gateway

I am thinking about switching to 1GB fiber service with Att. But from what I've read in multiple forums, Their modem/router outputs horrible speeds over wifi. I've seen in forums here, Att reps stating that I can bridge my own router to their gateway. I just called the tech support to ask if this is possible and they said no. Is there a number i can call directly to get with someone who is trained to answer these questions? I think if Att isn't going to upgrade their gateways to put out the speeds they provide, it would be genius of them to allow the customer to piggy back of their gateways. 1. Att still gets paid for their equipment fee rental without having to upgrade their gateways 2. The customer is happy to be able to use their own 2/300 dollar router to push real speeds 3. you turn doubters like myself into happy customers.
