AT&T Fiber connection slowing down every night

So, I've had AT&T Fiber at my house for over 4 years now and it's been the best internet provider I've ever had, up until the past month or so. In the past month I can watch the speeds from my router (Amplifi Alien) to the ISP start dropping (Sub 100 Mbps) around 8 pm and the pings rise (~100ms) during that time too. I only noticed this speed issue because all my streaming services started to drop quality or completely stop for a few seconds to re-buffer. Usually it lasts about an hour to 2 hours (8-10 pm usually) and then slowly starts to ramp back up.

We've had our neighborhood grow quite a bit recently so I'm wondering if a larger number of people has something to do with it, but I've asked anecdotal questions of some neighbors and they've been seeing some of the same issues lately too.

I'm happy to run any tests and provide any data, just hoping to find the right outlet to get this addressed as the AT&T Support numbers don't really provide the right people to talk with for something like this. Thanks!

I gave up on them. I switched to Xfinity and problem solved.

I mean sure, if you have the ability to switch to another fiber network with symmetrical speeds then be my guest.

Not really a solution.

Unless I can figure this out soon I'm going to have to go back to Comcast. It's $25 more but at least it works.

Same. I'm going to reach out to AT&T tomorrow, if they tell me that it's my ONT again, I'm switching to Spectrum.

For anyone who finds this in the future.

Had a tech come out to tell me that all the light levels on the fiber were perfect as well as the equipment inside the home. They then proceeded to tell me that the specific switch for my town/area in the AT&T data center is overloaded and that there is nothing they can do to fix it. They told me that all the new subdivisions that are being built around me is straining the C.O. (whatever that means) and that it will take "an act of congress" for AT&T to either upgrade the physical hardware or add another switch in the center to alleviate the issue. They also advised me to wait another few weeks to see if the problem finally gets resolved (been waiting two months). They said all the techs and reps know about the issue in the area and that they had 20 tickets this week alone for the exact same issue and they could do nothing.

So basically, if you guys are living in an area where there are a lot of developments being built, this issue will never go away until the developments are done, and the datacenters are brought up to scratch.

Cancelled my service today and Spectrum is installing their hardware tomorrow. Good luck guys.

I literally just switched to spectrum because I started having this issue as well, I had 1 gig up/down, my game felt slow and I was getting killed instantly without the chance to shoot. Packet loss percentage on cod around 1-5%. Even when I got it to 0% I was still feeling it off. As soon as I did the switch I felt a big difference and I downgraded to cable 500 down 20 up. When att was good I really enjoyed it but sadly I had this issue

I'm about to switch to Spectrum too. I had a guy come out yesterday and play with my ONT and apparently pretend to fix something. I'm tired of having to repeat myself to customer service reps even though the first one told me there was a "network sync" issue, but no one seems to be able to fix it. I think they  really are throttling speeds because they've overloaded their own capacity.

AT&T only rolled out fiber in the first place because the government required it in order for the merger with Time Warner to get approved. After the deal ended, they laid off thousands of people, and now they're going back to their old shady ways.

because they've overloaded their own capacity.

Agree.  I do not believe that they're throttling (i.e. deliberately lowering the bandwidth below capacity), the traffic is just being limited by capacity at certain points in the network.  In some cases it's their peering connection, in some cases its their own network.
