AirTies 4920 wi-fi extender connection hooping

I am posting this here again with more details because it's been about 3 months and the last person who was helping never got back to me.

2 laptops on our network keep disconnecting from the extender which is less than 25 feet away in the same room and switching over to our fiber dual band gateway (model 5268AC) 3 large rooms over (about 200 feet) and i can see this is happening using the at&t smart home manager app's Network Health Check tool on my phone. This signal jump causes the connection strength to drop all the way down to 1 bar at random because of all the thick walls and appliances between the gateway and the laptops. One laptop is an Alienware 15 R3 with a Killer Wireless-n/a/ac 1435 wireless adaptor, and the other is a Lenovo Thinkpad (not sure which model exactly) with Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 and both are auto connected to the 5 GHz radio band. there are also 2 android galaxy s9s on 5 GHz and a hisense roku smart tv on 2.4 GHz connected to the extender as well but they do not switch over.

Since my last post i have factory reset the gateway's settings and re-paired the extender but the problem still continues and is interrupting important work video calls.
