5GB fiber slowing down in the evenings
So I just got 5GB fiber installed back in June. Worked great for the 1st 45 days or so then it started slowing down in the evenings and lately I'm barely getting over 1GB. Had a tech come out and swapped out the router but that really didn't change anything. I am testing wired using a pc connected directly to the 5GB port and the pc has a 10GB ethernet card. (Super high end gaming machine). At any rate ... again for the first 45 days it clocked 4.7GB down and up. Now average is 1.5GB down but still 4.7 GB up. I'm guessing ATT doesn't have the infrastructure in place to offer 5GB service but they are still charging for bandwidth I'm not getting. Any similar stories? Love to get ATT to help but so far they aren't responding any longer

I'm experiencing the same issues. I have had 3 different techs and 4 modem swaps in the past 3 weeks. Still the issue exists. I've had this problem for over a month now and it's frustrating. I have 5gb and during the hours of 4pm-12am, My speeds coming in to the gateway test at 400-500 mbps. after midnight, they increase to normal speeds of 4700-5000mbps. Tech just left an hour ago and said it needs to be escalated so that an engineer can come out to look at the box that supplies the neighborhood. I don't have hopes on if and when this will take place. I'm essentially paying an additional hundred dollars a month to get the same speeds I received when I had the 1 gig plan.

I filed an FCC complaint and at least had folks from the home office call and open a case. I can't say if they are going to get anything done but they are going through the motions of responding to the FCC. I'd advise everyone to file an FCC complaint that is not being provided the service they are paying for and that ATT is advertising.

well, it won't do much sines it's what they called a shared service known as "BEST EFFORT service"
How did I find out this key info well
-
today 11/1/22 I saw a field Cew the real at&t engineers with the white trucks at least in the area not sure on other parts. so I stop by got out of my car and made contact with one of the guy very very nice guy. so I asked him the question if I paying 5GB speeds why I getting 1 2 and a good day 5 speeds he took notes and said could be a number of things could be the main switch port cable underground cable. then he said that he told me to keep in mind its best effort service meaning if the switch has too much traffic things slow down, he told me if I would get dedicated fiber, it would be a different story he said.

What is the difference between broadband internet and AT&T Dedicated Internet?
Broadband internet uses a shared connection that allows multiple customers to share internet bandwidth in the network. AT&T Dedicated Internet is a super-fast, reliable, symmetric (equal upload and download speeds) dedicated internet service with strong Service Level Agreements (SLAs) supported by 24/7/365 active monitoring. Even during peak usage times, AT&T Dedicated Internet delivers the same outstanding experience.

the above is pulled from their enterprise wont let me post a link so you need to find it under business att dot com
If I get that service then it's no and no buts it would be guaranteed speeds sines it's under a SLA..
so that's is it we are back in the stone age so on my way of seeing this 5GB speeds is not worth it in this point in to it would be ideal if there were not many users on the switch down the street but in my area, I notice lots lots lots lots lots lots of users I saw that box open and about 90 of then were active if you're in area with little active connections then it worth it

Makes total sense. I keep getting the same generic answers, but I do live in an area where new homes are being built and I'm sure most of them are likely signing up for fiber. My issues occur during peak times from 4pm-12am daily. Weekends are odd as they occur at the same times. I've just about given up all hope on it being resolved. I had one tech just tell me to switch companies.

even if you switch it will be the same unless you get an SLA. Even cable is the same it's all best effort unless if it's under an SLA.

I look into myself in my area it would cost around $1k for a full gig 10MB $395. and 8k for a 5gig 40k for a 1 terabyte connection plus port fees what they call a data transport fee.
