2023 Equipment Fee

So i got a letter (or advertisement if you will) in the mail and noticed that the new policy is that new services don't have equipment fees. It was advertising 2 gig speeds. I looked up on your website and it even says no equipment fees for 1 gig speeds. Which i have a 1 gig fiber internet account, had it for quite awhile now.

I get charged a $10 a month equipment fee, I've been told by ATT technicians that i could call and get it removed. Well i did call and lo and behold, no one can do anything, not only that but they tell me that only new Coustmers get no equipment fees.

So... existing and faithful Coustmers get punished with equipment fees and new coustmers don't? Can anyone help this make sense to me? Because even the Coustmer support i talked to said it doesn't make sense.

I would love to hear the response to this. I know it's only $10 a month but that comes up to $120 a year, and also feels like a slap in the face for existing Coustmers.

Thank you.

New accounts don't have the equipment fee listed but the pricing is $10 higher than established accounts.

Do you know that for a fact though? Im really just genuinely curious. If so, then that's still a shame. Especially when they advertise 80 dollars a month (after $5 discount with autopay and paperless billing of course) I wonder how they justify that extra 10 dollars without labeling it as a equipment fee.

What is your Internet access fee for Fiber 1000? If it is $70 then the new simple billing is $80 includes the $10 Gateway rental fee.

We need a few more details.

Dave,

The access fee is $80 and the equipment fee is $10 dollars. With the other surcharges taxes and fees everything comes out to $91.25 a month.

If your monthly bill is $91.25 there's no way you are only paying $1.25 in taxes & fees.  You need to look at your bill details again.

Tell that to AT&T?

They are the ones that show it on my bill.

Then call 1-800-288-2020 and at the VRU prompts Say "Cancel Service". You don't have to cancel service but your call will be directed to a US based Customer Loyalty rep. Discuss your view on the $10 fee that you want waived. Depending on your local market and other Fiber completion available you may be pleased with the results.

One option is to upgrade your Fiber 1000 Online to Fiber 2000 for a month and get the new pricing that includes the $10 fee in the $110 rate. After your upgrade you can switch back to Fiber 1000 at the $80 rate. A second option is to drop to Fiber 500 and the back to Fiber 1000.

Special Note: If you have the Free HBO-Max feature on your Fiber 1000 plan it will be lost in any tier changes.

Note: your upgrade to Fiber 2000 may require a tech appointment depending on what AT&T Gateway you currently have installed. What AT&T Gateway do you currently have?

I stand corrected.

Call CS and say "Cancel" when prompted.  That will get you to the Loyalty Department.  Word is that they can offer things that regular CS agents can't.

Great minds, @dave006 !

Thank you Dave and Skeeter. Your help is much appreciated! I really just wanted to get input on this after i spoke the the CS agent. Thought it was interesting and wanted to see what others thought. I will give it a shot and see what happens. I really don't mind my bill price but shoot.. $10 is $10 lol

I have the Arris BGW210 gateway. If you are talking about the modem anyways.

Otherwise, i don't know.
