1000mbps fiber, getting less than 100mbps consistently through orbi pro mesh

I do not have a laptop that connects to ethernet to test internet speeds right out of modem, however, I just bought a brand new $1,000 orbi pro mesh system. After hooking it up, I am only able to get about 95mbps all throughout the house (supposed to be up to 1gbps).  Only port 2 on my ATT gateway works, all other ports do nothing.  I contacted netgear support, and after an hour with them they could only determine that the orbi system was limited due to the att fiber gateway. I am using a brand new cat5e ethernet cable. I have tried getting into the ATT fiber gateway diagnostics and changing the port speed to 1000, and doing pass-through with no luck.  I have reset everything many times including factory resets.  ATT customer support is sending a new gateway, but I am skeptical. Any ideas?

UPDATE** it was the cat5e cable that came with the Orbi Pro system.  I went and bought a cat 6 patch cable and now I'm hitting around 700 wifi through the orbi.  I'm good.  Thank you.

First what type of Wi-Fi devices are you using, model details would help?

Next you have 2 Wi-Fi networks active unless you disabled Wi-Fi on your AT&T Gateway so that is complicating Wi-Fi coverage and signals. Is your Orbi near your AT&T Gateway, if so move it as far away as your Ethernet cable will allow and make sure it is on a flat level surface at least 36 inches above the floor not near electronic equipment.

Next try this AT&T Tool: https://myhomenetwork.att.com/

(Note: you will need your AT&T ID / Password)

This tool will verify that your AT&T Fiber 1000 is receiving speeds above or near 940+. You also have to test the device speed that starts the test. Try connecting to your AT&T Gateway Wi-Fi for this test with your Orbi powered off.

The other option is to download the AT&T Smart Home Manager app and run a speedtest on the AT&T Gateway just to confirm all is well there. It is available for Apple and Android devices.

Finally how did you setup your Orbi system?

Check this Netgear link for more information: https://kb.netgear.com/26747/How-do-I-set-up-my-NETGEAR-or-Orbi-router-to-work-with-AT-T-U-verse

The model of the orbi system is SXR80. Yes I have verified that the ATT gateway os receiving 1000 down and up from the light source. And connecting through wifi from the ATT gateway, I get speeds around 850mbps. I know the ATT gateway is performing perfectly via wifi. Yes I did also try disabling wifi by turning all the wifi radios off on the ATT gateway. The ATT SmartHome also confirms that the ATT gateway is working fine for wifi.

Ethernet is where it gets weird.  In the ATT gateway, the diagnostic menu shows that all ports are enabled. However, the only wthernet port on the ATT gateway that works (lights up when I put in an ethernet cable attached to a device) is port 2. No other port works, and no other port will link with the Orbi.

Thanks for your help.

Oh, also I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note Ultra, and a 2020 Microsoft Surface (not sure of the model number right now, but I'll get it. ) and, I connected the Orbi as a router, not an access point. (As I see in your link, that may be the issue)

Update* it's a Microsoft Surface pro 7 model 1866 and it is running Windows 10 home.

This is a speed test done right through orbi pro GUI, AFTER I put the orbi into
AP mode.

Hi, darmst200, we understand that you want to get the fastest possible speeds with your Orbi router.

If you're still getting slow speed after you set up the replacement AT&T gateway, we suggest that you try our paid service, Tech360. You'll be able to get thorough assistance with your 3rd party router and more.
