slow internet speeds, even with fiber and upgrade

Like many others I'm doing lots of work over zoom. Consistently my speeds are slower than everyone else on the call. Service gets interrupted, disconnected. Yesterday I was in a meeting on Blackboard collaborate and you can check your connections and compare with others. Attaching image of the session with my connection speed.

I just upgraded a few months ago and not seeing the difference when on these calls.

Please advise.

Hello, @wittenbp

Having reliable, fast internet is essential with most of us working from home.  Let’s see what we can do to help you.

One of the most overlooked steps is to simply try resetting your router. This can often help resolve connectivity issues and improve performance.

There are many things that cause your internet to slow down that we may not think about.  The router’s environment can play a big part in your internet’s performance.

When looking at the router’s environment, there are some key points to look for:

  • Plug your router directly in to a wall outlet, preferably non-GFCI
  • Keep other electronics or wireless emitting devices at least 3ft from the router
  • Keep the router off the ground, place it on a flat surface not made of metal, and in an open area to keep it cool and allow proper airflow.

To help optimize your internet speed, try turning off devices that are not in use during work hours to free up some bandwidth, and if possible, use a wired connection from your computer to the router.

From our Smart Home Manager, you can check how many devices are connected, view device usage, and removed devices that are not needed.

As always, for personalized troubleshooting, log in to the Troubleshoot and Resolve Tool. It can help with unresolved issues and also schedule a technician visit if needed.

Let us know if you have any other questions,
