Paying for 1000 MBPS getting 1/3 of that speed on phones and laptop

I pay for 1000MBPS and my speed test shows my download speeds on both my Verizon service phone and Mac laptop are 1/3 of that. When i called ATT the rep said its because i don't have ATT as my phone provider and I'm using a Mac. Suggested I either live with it, switch my cell phone provider to ATT and get a Samsung laptop or switch to another internet provider for my home. Insane!

@tespinosa here is a longer version of my reply to your reply on someone else's thread.  Please keep your conversation in one thread (here, preferably) so we don't have duplication and confusion:

When i called ATT the rep said its because i don't have my phone service with ATT and I'm using a Mac. Essentially said either switch to ATT on everything, live with it or change provider

This is politely known as Bee Ess.  Neither assertion --(a) having AT&T Mobile service vs Verizon, nor (b) using a Mac affecting your speeds -- has any basis in reality.  I have several words for anyone who works for AT&T who would tell you different, and none of them are complementary.  Heck, the AT&T Wireless and Wireline groups barely know they're part of the same company, speeds are not interdependent.

More likely it is because you are using Wi-Fi... You have to work, very, very hard to get a Wi-Fi connection coming anywhere close to Gigabit speeds.  Do you have an Ethernet adapter in that Mac?  Can you connect it to your Gateway via an Ethernet cable and see what kind of speeds you get then?

Hey thanks for the quick response, that makes sense. I’ll give that a shot in the morning but still doesn’t solve my problem. Dos that mean that I would have to get everything in my house wired? I have smart tvs that freeze because of poor wifi and getting bumped off of zoom calls even when I’m the only person home using the wifi.

Not having gigabit Wi-Fi bandwidth isn't causing your smart TVs to freeze or your zoom calls to end.  You have a few options depending on what your situation is.  First, yes, wire whatever you can reasonably wire.  Second, you might consider getting a third-party access point, wireless router or mesh system to replace the AT&T Wi-Fi.  If that's not in the cards, you can consider (a) turning off band steering and (b) locking the channels on your Gateway to try to make it easier for devices to stay connected.
