Nightly Slowdown of download speeds

I have AT&T 1 gig fiber and have noticed for the past week that my download speeds drop to 100 mbps or less each night from about 6 pm - 10 pm.  I do the test through the AT&T app and test the speed coming into the actual AT&T modem.  It appears to be a congestion issue since it happens in the evenings each day and then is fine outside of that time period.  I know if I have a technician come out during the day, everything will be working fine.  Has anyone had this issue and gotten it resolved?  I am in the Atlanta area.

Here is a screenshot of speed tests done over a 24 hr period.  This is from the AT&T app testing the speeds coming into the modem.  The same pattern has happened each day for over a week.

Thank you. I have done all of the steps such as restarting the modem multiple time. Unfortunately, this doesn’t help because it is the speed coming into the modem. Download speeds are great until around 7 pm but then drop off by over 80% until about 11pm.  Only happens n this 4 hour window, the rest of the day we have full 1 gig download speeds regardless of number of devices on WiFi. Again these are speeds from the modem, not our WiFi.

Here are today’s speeds straight from the modem. It’s hard to keep paying for gig speeds when I can’t use it when I need it most.

I'm having the EXACT same issue with my 1gig package. 5 technicians have already come to my residence within the month that I've had service with AT&T.

The latest supervisor recommends a "rip and rebuild" of my account. They say that there could be a glitch on my account that's causing inconsistencies.

The last technician connected my gateway directly to the port in my front yard and was still receiving 100mpbs download. The upload is not affected.

If the "rip and rebuild" doesn't fix the evening slowdowns, then I'll be heading back to Spectrum.

Ericmpena, thank you for the reply!  I hate to hear you are getting such a run-around!  I am not a tech expert, but in my case, it is pretty obvious that this is either an overload situation in our neighborhood/area or some type of throttling.  I haven't had a technician come out yet, but based on your reply and other threads I have seen, I'm sure they will concentrate on my equipment and not the big issue that is causing the problem.  I have only been with ATT a few months and hope I don't have to move providers to get stable internet service.

I had a 6th tech come this morning. He basically said that AT&T overpromised services in the area and are not able to provide what they promised.

Still, I had my services deleted and then provisioned again as a “new installation”. This time I’m on the 2 Gig package.

While none of my devices get speeds that high, the gateway speed test shows that I’m indeed receiving 2500/2500. All I’m concerned with is if those speeds will drop down to the 100’s in the evening or not.

If they drop tonight, then there’s nothing else for me to do except cancel AT&T and go back to Spectrum.

Good luck, and if you will let us know how your night speeds go. Thanks!
