IP Peering issues in Texas region?
I am an AT&T Fiber customer in Houston, Texas. For the last week or so, I have had issues come up daily 2-3+ times in a 24 hour period where I completely lose all internet connectivity for around 90 seconds, then it comes back for several more hours, then this behavior repeats again. First, I suspected my BGW210-700 gateway was causing it, but in troubleshooting I have ruled that out. It seems as if there is some peering/network issue within the AT&T backhaul network causing this and was hoping someone in the networking team can take a look.
If I do a traceroute from my machine to 220.127.116.11, it passes through the following routers...
192.168.0.254 (my Arris BGW210 CPE router)
on and on...
For testing purposes, I opened 4 terminal windows running a continuous ping to each of them and I have a solid 100% ping statistics to 192.168.0.254 (my router), 18.104.22.168, and 22.214.171.124. There is no connectivity or latency problem anywhere there. The problems begin somewhere in the path between 126.96.36.199 and 188.8.131.52 from what my testing has shown...
Since I cannot directly ping 184.108.40.206, I resorted to pinging 220.127.116.11 with a TTL value of 8 (which is the hop number after 18.104.22.168) and alas beginning with this router I can see the timeouts occurring during the approximately 90 second window of time when total internet connectivity is lost. I want to re-iterate that I never have any packet loss pinging the routers earlier in the traceroute, they have 100% packet reply rate so because of this I am absolutely sure I do not have any problems with my CPE equipment.
As I have demonstrated through testing, the problem is beyond my Arris gateway box. Please do not reply with any instructions asking me to reboot or factory reset my router.
