Does my AT&T fiber optic internet service use fiber optic cable in my house ?

AT&T currently brings the fiber inside your home.  Initially it goes to a fiber wall jack, and then a fiber "cable" runs from that wall jack to either an ONT or a BGW 320 Gateway (if an ONT, then Ethernet runs from the ONT to whatever Gateway you get).

The days of installations using outdoor ONTs, where the fiber never entered your home, ended quite a few years back.

Thank you.  Now, how do I know if I have an ONT or a BGW 320 Gateway ?

Hey @JSoke! Thanks for reaching out with your questions about our Fiber Internet service.

We appreciate @JefferMC for providing you with the correct information about how our service is set up.

If you have an ONT there will be a white box that is installed on your wall that your internet service will go through. For our BGW 320 Gateway, it will be a white box that is not on the wall and you can move around.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

I have a light grey box mounted on the wall outside of my house.  The fiber optic "cable" (from the telephone pole behind my yard) enters this box.  Another "cable", which is much thinner, then enters my house.  And this thinner "cable" goes to a small white box mounted on the wall behind my TV.  This smaller box has a cable (which I believe to be a CAT6) that is attached to the Router, where it is marked as ONT (in).  I believe this router is provided by AT&T, but I'm not sure.

So I clearly have an ONT in my house.  But does it belong to AT&T ?

ONT and gateway both belong to AT&T. The ONT stays in the home if service is cancelled or moved to another address. The gateway is moved to the new service address or returned to AT&T

The ONT belongs to AT&T.  It is intended that, should you move away or discontinue service, that the ONT be left there until such time as you or someone else wants to resume AT&T Fiber service.  It hasn't worked out very well for them.
