Free AT&T 5G Booster

I have called many times using the instructions sent to my by AT&T for a FREE booster. Letter says call by March 31st. I have called 2 times this week.  Called today February 25.. well before the deadline.  AND I WAS TOLD THEY RAN OUT OF BOOSTERS !!!! (Edited per community guidelines)!  Then told Booster   might not be available until April!  BUT I could buy one!!!  Or up-grade my iphone and buy a new iphone 12 from them, AT&T!  SOUNDS LIKE BAIT AND SWITCH TO ME AND I AM FURIOUS.  OPTIONS: 1. Switch off At&T go to another company. 2. Buy and iphone 12 from Apple instead of these crooks and go another phone company.  I am a senior citizen who lives in the woods and I have no land line... thanks AT&T for dumping folks and sending a SCAM free booster letter!

@Karlyn76 If you previously had a MicroCell with an active account (you were still using the MicroCell) then the letter sent to you should have had a website link, that unfortunately hasn't worked correctly for most people. What has worked for some, but not everyone is this:

1. Disable WiFi on your phone and try the website on cellular only. You may have to go to an area that has a strong cellular signal, or

2. Copy/paste the link into a Private browsing window, or

3. Try a different browser after clearing the cache/cookies.

You need to have a phone that is capable of working on AT&T's LTE network post-3G shutdown, so what model of phone do you have? If you have a phone that is not on the AT&T whitelist for LTE, that might be why AT&T suggested you purchase a new phone. You don't need an iPhone 12. Any iPhone, from the iPhone 6 and above should still be able to work on AT&T's network.

The Cell Booster (which is a femtocell just like the MicroCell) will go on sale around mid-March but there still should be free Cell Booster's available for previous MicroCell users. Unfortunately, the CS agents, at least a lot of them, haven't a clue what is going on with the Cell Booster. All you can do is keep trying or hopefully ATTHelp will see your post and contact you.

Oops. I neglected to add that the Cell Booster is not a 5G device. It is 4G/LTE only. The Cell Booster Pro MAY be upgraded to 5G down the road but it is intended for Enterprise and First Responders (FirstNet).

I have an iphone7. There letter and the last 3 folks I talked to at AT&T all had different stories. One said it was not a booster but a phone. One said they could sell me a new iPhone 12  for 5$ a month since I am a long time ATT customer… but of course that has fine print you must do a 3 year contract. Another said the free phone was An iPhone RX. One said it was a booster & go to site to get it free booster using Chrome since I was using my Apple safari. So I tried that today. Then where you add a verification # it said sorry you have had too many verification numbers. … well yes, since I had to just keep trying to jump the hurdle. Then guy said the did not have anymore in stock and free offer might expire… even though it says March 31 deadline.

it don’t understand if it is a 4g booster or 5G. We currently have a booster in our house so I ought to check what it is if I can.
totally disgusted.

@Karlyn76 An iPhone 7 will work just fine with the Cell Booster (my wife's iPhone is a 7) as well as WiFi-C (WiFi Calling), which is preferred, and her phone connects just fine either way.

There is no such thing as an iPhone RX. There is an iPhone X so that might be what was meant. But I believe that AT&T was sending out the iPhone SE to customer's who had 3G only iPhones.

You said you have a booster already. Is it the AT&T MicroCell or is it something else? That's important.

The Cell Booster is 4G/LTE ONLY. It is not 5G. The Cell Booster Pro, which is intended for Enterprise and First Responders MAY be upgraded to 5G later on. Both are femtocells, like the MicroCell was. They are not cellular boosters.

Yes I know there is no iphone RX so who was this ATT guy at the customer service. I told him sure never heard of it. But all his info was all over the place. I gave up on him.  I will see if I can find a knowledgeable person at the att store.
I will go check on our current booster. We always have had a booster because we are way out in the woods.
My iPhone 7 is just fine. The new iphone 13 is gorgeous but $1000 bucks and I just got a new iMac 27. So I can keep working on big projects at home  & I don’t need a super iPhone camera this little 7 fine for now.  Thanks for your input. I am going to check on our booster.

@Karlyn76 Don't bother going to an AT&T store because they have less information or knowledge than the CS agents do. Especially if you go to an AT&T Reseller Store and not an AT&T Corporate Store. In fact, I wouldn't do business with a Reseller Store period. They both look exactly the same only the Reseller stores are independently owned and operated and are not staffed by AT&T employees.

If you are using a cellular booster, and not the AT&T MicroCell, then you don't qualify for a free Cell Booster. AT&T chose the name Cell Booster because the term is better understood by consumers than the term femtocell.

Have you used WiFi-C (WiFi Calling)? That really is the preferred method for improving poor in-home coverage depending on how good your WiFi connection is.

Your iPhone 7 is fine for the Cell Booster and/or WiFi-C. You don't need a new phone if you don't want one.

It's really simple. Describe your "cell booster" to me and I can tell you if it's AT&T's MicroCell or not. There should be a tag on the bottom with the specifics. If it isn't, then don't waste your time trying to get a free one because you don't qualify. Turning on WiFi-C on your iPhone 7 is easy. Go to Settings -> Cellular -> Wi-Fi Calling and turn it from Off to On.

Also, who is your internet provider and what are your supposed speeds?

I will have to get the booster info from my husband I cannot see anything and I am not sure I am looking at the right thing. I was sure he said it was ATT. But i need to verify

we have broadband  brought into the area just a few years ago with underground cable their ad says 10gig .. it is a lot faster then my old satellite  service and more reliable. Will get back to you with info on booster

@Karlyn76 10Gbps is a huge amount  of bandwidth. You sure that's not 10Mbps? You also need to make sure that the cable to your house is truly a land-based internet service and not wireless broadband, which will be brought into your home via cable. Any non-land based internet service (satellite or wireless broadband) is not supported by AT&T. Only DSL, cable, or fiber internet is supported. Satellite or wireless broadband may work but any issues you have will have to be taken up with the provider, not AT&T.

The minimum download speeds for the Cell Booster is 10Mbps, and anything above that is better. 100Mbps is ideal.

The older MicroCells were white and the last version was black. The model numbers were listed on the bottom. The white one is DPH-153 and the black model was the DPH-154.

We're sorry for the experience you've received while trying to claim your AT&T Cell Booster, ! We can reassure you that we're here to help!

First, we want to show much appreciation to our very resourceful ACE! You did say you received the letter in regard to accepting the cell booster as a free replacement due to being impacted by the 3G sunset. You'd most likely received this alert because you're using a MicroCell device that is no longer supported on AT&T's upgraded network. The AT&T Cell Booster serves as a small 4G LTE cell tower in the home that uses the customer's broadband internet connection to carry the call or data traffic to the AT&T network. I did want to confirm that this offer has now expired due to exceeding supplies for this promotion. We recommend customers to activate Wi-Fi Calling on their mobile devices to better enhance their coverage experience. You'll want to review our list of compatible devices that were tested and approved for the AT&T network. It’s important to check the model numbers next to your device to make sure it’s still supported. You'll see the Iphone 6 or newer on there, so your Iphone 7 will work. We'd like to invite you into a direct message to see what we can offer for the inconvenience and allow us to forward your feedback. We're always looking for ways to improve our customer service. Be sure to check your direct message inbox which is the icon next to the bell icon in the upper right corner of the Forums.

Thank you for sharing with the AT&T Community!

I checked on the kind of Booster we have .. It is a Cisco Model DPH-154. purchased at an ATT store and added to our bill until it was paid for. . Also Our Provider offers BroadBand internet speeds from 250Mbps all the way to 10Gbps. I don'y a copy of our bill handy but judging from what I remember we pay for either 250Mbps or 1Gbps.... yikes 10Gbps costs 6 Gbps costs 300 a month and 10Gbps. you have to call to find out ... well I know we are not going there as our 250Mbps will do fine for now.

I will go to the site Jonye mentioned to see that information

@Karlyn76 Currently, AT&T has the iPhone 12 Mini for a $1 a month (credits spread out over 36-months).

Comparing the 12 Mini to the 7: it is 4 generations newer, supports 5g, with better cameras, an additional camera, smaller body, lighter, and has a bigger brighter screen (with 2-½ times the pixels at a higher resolution).

Will be checking out the deal. The AT&T person I spoke to last week said $5 a month.... but probably for the iPhone 12 plus and not mini. I would want something bigger than the mini.  AND I want to read the fine print to see if it requires a 3 year contract.  When I bought my 7 I got it straight from Apple with no interest and I might check out the 13.  I have no been in a rush since that 7 has been great for all my needs so was just waiting till it was too old.

Thanks for the tip.. have to keep upgrading sooner or later.

@Karlyn76 As I said, it will take 36 months to get all the credits.

You don't get it for $36 with zero commitment!

You said your 7 was "just fine" which was why I did the research for the similar but less expensive phone (which has a bigger screen).
