Does GPS have to be connected?

Does GPS have to be connected for the cell booster to work? The booster (router, etc) is not close to the window and I’m not really interested in putting close or in sticking an antenna on my window. Just wondering.

We'll be happy to clarify this for you @jhunter3.

It may still work, though not as effectively. Like most boosters and hotspots, the Cell Booster is going to perform best when elevated off the floor and near a window and if you run into any issues, that would be the first thing we'd suggest.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you for reaching out to our AT&T Community.

@jhunter3 and @Storychad  For Initial Activation the GPS antenna must be firmly connected (clicks into place) to the Cell Booster. The receiver end of the antenna needs to be attached to a window or on the window sill. Once the Cell Booster is registered and activated, with all lights a solid white, you can remover the antenna cable from the window but it's advisable to keep it connected to the Cell Booster. I keep mine neatly coiled up behind the Cell Booster.

AT&T will periodically perform maintenance late at night and part of that is rebooting the Cell Booster after maintenance or downloads are completed. The reboot causes the Cell Booster to go thru the Initial Activation phase, part of which is location verification and that is where the GPS antenna comes into play. You may not have to have the receiver in the window but you will need to have the antenna connected to the Cell Booster.

See my Cell Booster Technical Guide, link is in my sig line for details. I'm moving this to the Cell Booster Forum.
