How to create a program

Get the most out of your system by creating a program so you can live the Digital Life.

Step 1: Log into Digital Life from your app or browser

Step 2: Select Create New Program

Step 3: Select how you'd like to create your program

  • Select your desired canned program type to create a notification, control a device, arm/disarm your system, etc.
  • Click Create a custom program to manually create a program

Step 4: Follow the screen prompts to create a program that will run on your desired days/times

Step 5: Name, and save your program

That's it! Your program is ready to run.

When creating a Custom Program, the website specifically states "Notify a contact based on an event.  For example, you can set a notification if the door is open too long.", but the only "timing" options are what time of day the program should start and end, or what day of the week the program should run on.

I want to be alerted when either of my garage doors have been open for more than 10 minutes.  Somebody inadvertently opened one door, and it was open overnight, and someone took all my lawn equipment.  If I'd received an alert that the door had been open more than 10 minutes, I could have prevented the theft.

I actually sent this exact request to the manager that was observing my installation and provided his card for feedback, more than a year ago.

Hello @Anonymous

I don't think you're creating the program correctly. I walked through the options myself and you'll see in the screenshot below I have the option to select the length of time the Garage Door sensor has been opened.

Ensure when asked "Will any device or weather trigger this program to run?" you select Device Trigger. Select the device then select Is Opened.

Hope this helps.

I reviewed the list of Options:

Is opened

Is closed

Is not opened

Is not closed

I was trying to say Create  Notification rule Triggered by a Device, where the door is not closed.  The only options for that combination are Select Time of Day, or Day of Week.  Using your options I have been able to create the Programs I've wanted.  Now I need to determine what I need to be able to close them.  Thanks for your assistance!
