Why does att make it impossible to leave?

My daughter switched to a less expensive plan, but att refused to unlock her phone.
The att store in no way would help. Finally I called and told them that the phone was paid off it belongs to her, and they were legally obligated to unlock it so the teamobile SIM card would work. They put us through to tech and it was unlocked immediately. No more (Edited per community guidelines) about her no longer being an Att customer. Too bad it took almost 3 frustrating hours dealing with att customer service. I’m ready to change carriers after dealing with these liars.

It is always easier to unlock a phone once it is paid off, while still a customer. I always unlock my phones once they are paid off in case I want to change providers.

I prefer to buy my phone at the Apple Store. Better selection and I don’t want payments.
good idea to unlock it as soon as it is paid off!
you can check by going to settings > general > about > carrier lock

if carrier lock says no “no sim restrictions”, you are good to go!
