Logging into your account makes this easy to view.
It's under the overview page, and of a coupe of ways to get to the view, the easier is the control in the middle that says "I want to...". Click on this, and choose "Manage My Plan" and then "Check Upgrade Eligibility".
From here, it will show your your exact status.

You are probably eligible now but that only means you can buy a new phone on a Next installment plan. There are no 2 year contract discounted phones anymore.

Ugh! They dropped the 2-yr contract discounts now. If you want to upgrade to a new 128GB iPhone now on ATT, you have to pay a minumum of $75 more than you will with Verizon and Sprint. Maybe this is a good time to make a switch. I'm super annoyed.

@Alliezoe & @TyBarr If you are on an old minute plan, you're going to want to move to a new Mobile Share plan; those old plans still include the cost of a subsidized phone, but don't actually include the phones any more.
Tell us what you need and we'll help you pick the best value plan:

Let me break it down in more detail for you. With Sprint and Verizon (and ATT in the past) you can upgrade with a 2-yr contract for $299 for the 128GB iPhone. At the end of the 2 years, you can sell your old phone and get a new one for the same $299 price, even using the money made by selling your old phone to buy the new phone.
With ATT, you have to pay the full price of $749. Or you can do a purchase plane where you either have to pay $375 each year, and get a new phone each year, or $600 over 2 years and get a new phone every 2 years. In each case, you also do not get to keep your old phone, but have to turn it in.
If you do the math, your best option is to pay full price of $749. After 2 years, you can sell your device for almost $300 with the Best Buy trade-in programs. Total cost in 2-years is $450. If you do the ATT program, it will cost you $600. You save $150 by buying the phone outright (and you lose $450 compared to Sprint and Verizon because you would completely recover the $300 you spent on the phone originally).
On the 1-yr plan, you are still better off buying it outright. Under the 1-yr plan, you pay $375 and get a new phone at the end of each year. If you buy the new iPhone for $749, and sell it after a year for about $380 in the Best Buy trade-in program, then your total cost would be about $370. You save $5.
There you have it. There is absolutely no financial benefit to buying through ATT again.

@TyBarr You do NOT have to turn the phone in, make all the payments and you can keep it. And you'd be cRaZy to trade it in with the iPhone which really retains the value (more than the last few payments).
Those old AT&T plans had the cost of the phone hidden in the plan! (So does the other companies).
The new plans are cheaper and pretty much make up the $449 of the old plans subsidy ($17.50 a month).
