What message does your phone give you when your service has been cut off.

Hello, I am a screenwriter looking for some information. My main character is going through some hard times and I was wondering if anyone knew what one's cellphone would do if they were to try and make a call when their service has been shut off? Would it give some sort of prerecorded message? if so, what would the message say?
