visual voicemail

I recently transferred my line/number and phone (Iphone10) from Verizon to ATT.  I am having trouble with the voicemail.  I have managed to set the voicemail up, but I cannot access it without "holding 1" on the keypad.  When I was still with Verizon, I could click on the phone icon and there used to be a voicemail option on the far bottom right-that option is not there anymore.  
Again, I have already set the voicemail up...I can access it if I "hold 1" on the keypad and then enter my passcode, but I do not even receive a notification when I receive a voicemail. Please advise.

Concerning your Visual Voicemail icon not showing up in the call app, it seems there must have been an error in the set up. Please follow the instructions to set up and troubleshoot your visual voicemail

 

Also, be sure you are using an AT&T SIM card and not the one from your old carrier.
