Verizon Number Ported to AT&T

My boyfriend is about to be on a plane for his deployment so I’m asking on his behalf. He ported his Verizon number to a new iPhone 12 yesterday through AT&T but isn’t receiving/can’t send texts from numbers other than iMessage. For example, his Venmo account needed to send a confirmation code through text and he couldn’t receive it. There are others he couldn’t receive from, but that is the example I’m using. He can send and receive texts from me just fine and call out just fine, but he’s about to be deployed and receiving messages and very important for him.

Do you know what number to call? I keep getting redirected or sent a text with a link for live chats but they always tell to contact someone else and it’s just a loop of not talking to who I need to

Let's look into why your boyfriend's device isn't able to send or receive texts after porting over to AT&T, @anipcar6!

First, we want to advise that in order to manage a wireless account online, at one of our stores, or by phone you will need to have user permissions. For info about account access by phone, we invite you to scroll and check out the section Who can manage my wireless account?

Also, with a little more info we can likely resolve your boyfriend's device's text messaging experience:

  • Is it just app confirmation texts he's not able to send/receive or individual numbers stored in his contacts? If he hadn't already, he may need to power the device off for several minutes, then back on. This action helps refresh your device's connection to the network and can resolve unexpected trends.
    • If it's just the app confirmation texts (short codes) that are affected, reach back and identify the device make and model. There may be restrictions on his phone which he will need to remove before he's able to receive those texts.

Should this experience persist despite the step above and include contacts stored on his phone, it's possible to contact our Port Activation Center (PAC) at 888-898-7685. They will be able to look further into this for him including investigate the transfer process.

Give this a try and let us know how it worked for you!
