Using your Apple Watch as a Cellular Phone
NumberSync for Apple Watch (Cellular) will automatically connect your watch to the AT&T domestic network when Wi-Fi is not available or your iPhone is not within Bluetooth range. The Apple Watch has an AT&T telephone number and associated rate plan and will appear on your monthly bill. Note, the watch telephone number cannot be used for voice, data or text messaging from the watch. Please remember to complete NumberSync set-up to use your watch on the AT&T cellular network with your iPhone number. With NumberSync active, calls and messages using your watch will display your AT&T iPhone telephone number.
What you need to get started:
- An Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular.
- An iPhone (6 or later including SE) that has been set up for AT&T HD Voice.
- iPhone running iOS version 11.0 or higher.
- iPhone and Apple Watch are on the same postpaid billing account.
- AT&T User ID (AccessID) associated with the iPhone.
The Apple Watch (Cellular) can access data in 3 ways.
- Bluetooth: The Apple Watch connects to the iPhone, and the iPhone does all the work, but it shows up on the Apple Watch.
- Wi-Fi: The Apple Watch makes and receives calls, sends messages, and uses data over the Wi-Fi network. The Apple Watch connects to the hotspots that the iPhone has previously connected to and remembered.
- Cellular: The Watch connects to the AT&T cellular network for voice and data services.
Messaging
- If you would like to ensure you'll receive SMS/MM messages and iMessages on your watch, you'll need to ensure the following have been set up on your iPhone:
- iMessage is enabled.
- NumberSync is enabled.
- For SMS/MMS, your iPhone will need to be powered on and have a connection to the AT&T Cellular Network, or via Wi-Fi connection with Wi-Fi calling enabled on the iPhone.

How do I add Apple Watch 3 cellular service to my ATT account? How much does the service cost per cellular Apple Watch 3? When is IOS 11.o coming out?

Can I add the $10 monthly fee for a wearable to my plan without loosing my grandfathered unlimited plan? I was poking around and at least the website wants you to change plans. However, I chatted with AT&T yesterday and they said I can add it without loosing it. If I loos it I'm moving to Verizon. 😞

Hi,
The billing rates on the Apple Watch series 3 for cellular use has not been finalized. When it is, we will update our articles with this information. iOS 11 officially comes out 9/19/17.

I have been in China where I placed the order for a cellular iW3.
I now see that AT&T wants the same billing address for my iW3 and my iP7. However, I ordered my iW3 directly from Apple using a personal CC and my AT&T iP7 uses my office CC.
How do I resolve this issue or does AT&T mean that I must activate an AT&T plan for my iW3 that works with my current plan for the iP7 ? I have serious jetlag and find the text unclear.

I chatted on the day before pre-orders went live and the person I chatted with said that I could remain on my current grandfathered unlimited data. The website says you have to be on a new plan. choice or unlimited plan. It seems tempting I already have directv, but those plans dont support employer discounts. I ended up no ordering.. I will wait until I hear more on here.

My partner is with AT&T and got me an Apple watch series 3 with cellular on his plan. My phone is Verizon. Will this still work? Can I connect my Verizon phone to the Watch that’s on AT&T?

Not with cellular. Numbersync only works with att phones.
