Unlocking problem

I paid retail price for an iPhone 12 at target. It seem this is still locked to AT&T. I tried  the portal and it still say's "in-Process." On the forums everyone indicated the unlocking is faster than this, but it has been 12 hours now. Can I call the unlocking department?

Then you have a locked phone, and need to meet the eligibility requirements.  If you bought the phone a full price, you just need to wait 60 days from the date of purchase.  The 6 month required for prepaid shouldn’t be applicable if you bought the phone at full price, and didn’t buy a discounted prepaid phone with a prepaid SIM.  That’s how it should work, given the verbiage.

First, are you sure the phone isn’t unlocked?  The ad says it’s unlocked.  You can look in the settings to verify if it says “carrier lock” or “no SIM restrictions”.  If the phone is locked to AT&T, then you might want to get your money back from Target for false advertising for selling you a locked phone.  If you don’t want to do that, do you meet all of the unlocking eligibility requirements?  Even if you bought a new phone at full price without installments, there is still a 60 day waiting period before it’s eligible to unlock.

Also, are you sure that this is supposed to be a fully factory unlocked device, and not a phone sold under the flex reseller policy, where it’s not locked to any carrier out of the box, but it will lock to the first carrier who’s SIM you install.

under the About menu, under where it says Carrier Lock it reads "Sim Locked"

In comparison, when I look in my old iPhone, it reads "No Sim Restrictions"

Question: The 2 month waiting period you refer to. Am I to understand that the phone needs to be active on a post paid account for two months with ATT, or do I simply wait two months?

Question 2: can I activate this on ATT prepaid? I am aware, unlocking takes 6 mos. on the prepaid side.

Thanks all....for your help on this.

Hello, I am based in Mauritius and recently bought a Google Pixel 7 online. Now I cannot put my local sim card on it, since it is saying it is locked to ATT and a bill must be paid, but I did pay the seller the full amount. So, it could be that the seller did not pay the full amount to ATT. I need to get the phone network unlock from ATT. I need someone from the ATT company to call me. I tried to contact you guys, but an AI talks to me, and when giving my mauritius number, they do not recognise it.

The seller has obviously not paid off the phone with ATT and aTT cannot sort this out with you, only the original owner can do that. Only they can unlock it. Contact the seller and get your money back. Otherwise the phone is a brick and you have been scammed.

I am not able to contact the seller, and i am not at fault if the seller did not pay the full amount to ATT, i was not aware. I just want to know how att can help me with this, there must be a solution. Do i need to pay additional money to att to get this phone carrier unlock?

1.  No one from ATT will call you

2.  Only the original owner can pay the phone off

3.  ATT will not intervene in this situation.

You bought a phone from a third party.  That is not ATTs problem.  Get your money back or consider it a loss.  🤷‍♂️
